You have a Golden rod, or Maxsafe (mine)? I just picked up a stackon 24 gun safe for $300. It's going in the garage which is not temp, or humidity controlled. I'm the worst for buying gadgets, and don't know if I NEED an extra sensor. ETA I have a sensor in the garage already. Attached File |

I have a similar situation and use the rod and this: https://www.libertysafe.com/products/desiccant-moisture-absorber I usually have to "recharge" every season, i.e. quarterly. |

A PEET Safe Dryer is far superior to a Goldenrod. Add some Zerust VCI capsules for belt and suspenders. Put a decent powered dehumidifier in the garage to reduce ambient humidity. You can run the drain out the wall in the garage to drain into the lawn or tie into a downspout drain. And get a weather meter to monitor temp and humidity inside the safe and ambient. |

I bought a couple dehumidifiers off Amazoon. Tiny Peltier device units.I put one in 40 ft high cube container, one in my vault. I am surprised how much it improved the air quality in a container. The vault is of course in the house , so the reduction in humidity is less noticeable. | I have the normal refirgertioytype units in other places, yes they add heat to the room. These little ones dont add near the heat, in the container it fills the tank in 4/5 days, making a half gallon or so. That seems enough to make the space feel drier. |

My safe isn't in the garage, but it is in a room where we keep the HVAC off most of the time. I use a goldenrod combined with a few desiccant bags, that works well, but I'm not as good as I should be when it comes to baking them regularly. I put them in the oven yesterday and you can see the results below. Would think a similar combo should work in a garage but would need to refresh the desiccant more often. |

What is an ideal humidity level for a safe? I have a heavy TL30 safe I keep in the garage for non firearm things. Live in a high humidity area and I use these Midway desiccant canisters below. I bought 12 of them when they were on sale for $10 each. Keep four in the safe and 8 recharged. Seems like I need to swap them out every 45-60 days. I need to put a weather station humidity monitor in the garage and safe. Do not have an electrical pass thru in the garage safe unfortunately or I would add a rod.

I'm a cheap so-and-so and already have a jug of beads. I want an empty container.  ETA here is the last week in the garage. Attached File I'm here at the range volunteering my time today. Hanging with the owner and his wife, she is an accomplished seamstress. We have leftover shot bags. I asked her if she could show me a zipper that's tight and won't leak the beads. She said she would. I could just put the beads in a pie pan when necessary to recharge them. |
