I keep thinking of getting something else in 7.62x39. And maybe something different than the AK pattern rifle. There’s the PTR-32 series of roller lock guns. But they don’t seem to be imported at the moment and pricing on the used market is what it is. I know the Mini-14/30 has had some off years and some better years. I see they have a limited run of guns with a threaded 16” barrel. Anyone have any experience with these? Good, bad, ugly? What am I looking for? Just something to play with. Accuracy at least on par with a typical AK. I’d probably get a Samson A-Team stock eventually, just because.

Thanks. Follow up question: anyone try running one of these suppressed? Yes I know, supersonic crack, and all that. But how are they for gas blowback? Are they loud like a suppressed AK? How are the barrels for bore concentricity? I had a mid-90s Mini-14, which was actually a pretty decent shooter. Seems like the old pencil barrels had quite a bit of barrel whip, which didn’t always go well with a suppressor. I’m hoping the shorter 16” barrel helps with this. |

I have a newer mini 30 in stainless. It took a bit of fiddling and I had to send it back to the factory for a new barrel, but I eventually got it to shoot about 2 1/2” at 100 with Norma ammo. I never could get the integrated scope mount to work right, but I put a rail on over the barrel and that works, and it also improved accuracy a bit. It’s a fun gun to shoot. Mine isn’t threaded so I don’t know about the suppressor performance. Lots of good info over at the perfect union web site. |

Bought a used one, 2023 serial#, I'm quite happy with it. Added a recoil buffer. Using the iron sights I can manage a 100 yd group that you can cover with your hand. I will never scope it, takes away the fun. 😉 They seem to have solved the wandering zero problem. The first rounds land where the other 20 or so do. |
