When I bought my M82A1 used from a guy, I got about 150 rounds (new in sealed boxes) of this ammo. It's billed as one of the most accurate factory produced .50 BMG ammo. I don't know if that's marketing fluff, but my question is: Would using that in an M82A1 be overkill given that the M82A1 isn't really a precision rifle? I mean, I looked at what it's going for now, and it seems like it's around $7-8 per round.  I've got a ton of Summit remanufactured stuff as well as CBC and M33 ball. |

You should expect 1-1.5MOA roughly with the AMAX. Mine does roughly that with it. Is that overkill? I have no idea, are you shooting toilets at 50yd in the desert or are you trying to hit things far away? |

Well, what I'm getting at is, if the M82A1 in stock form has a ceiling of 2-3 MOA rifle (which I have no idea if that's the case), and the A-MAX ammo is capable of 1 MOA ammo, wouldn't it be pointless to use that in the rifle, especially if I have other ammo that's around 2-3 MOA capable? Or is it additive? FWIW, I'm generally shooting 18-24" steel plates from 500 out to 1K yards. |

| I’m not sure it works exactly like that. Are you trying to be precise? Use precision ammo. If blasting use blasting ammo. My 82’s were bought for blasting. I remember someone mentioning factory Amax ammo being down on speed because of the length restrictions vs what handloaders do when they aren’t limited to the mag. |

Trying to be precise enough to hit 24" plates at up to 1K Yards.  But not needing to punch holes in paper inside a 1 MOA square. Just trying to figure out if shooting this ammo would be a waste for me shooting at those ranges and targets. |

In my 107A1 I didn't find the AMAX as accurate as brass solids. About a 2.9" to 3" 5 shot group at 100 yds and much larger at 200 yds. Could have been me as well. 50 BMG (12.7x99mm), 750gr A-MAX Hornady |

For a gun to be an Xmoa gun it has to shoot that with SOME ammo, you cannot accurately quantify the accuracy of a gun and/or load combination without atleast some combo of gun+ammo. You wont know this without either shooting the gun OR just accepting what a stranger tells you on arfcom  You should expect 3.5-5" with random M33 ball machinegun ammo, so it will do your 18" plate at 500yd no problem But for that 1k work you should put something nicer in it. Shoot some amax, shoot some of the surplus brass bosnian sniper ammo, shoot some pmc xtac match and write down what your gun is doing. |

Probably got lucky and it was a 3 shot group. Ammo was PMC. |

I think people who single load them also handloading them to a long OAL. At least that's what I remember from the FCSA match I attended watching them shoot that class. The factory amax rounds are loaded to mag length. |
