I have a dsc or pc1616. I recently had a window replaced and they left just the wire hanging out of the sheet rock. I ordered some window magnet sensors off Amazon and wired it up. Alarm is still showing the window zone as being open. Shouldnt this be plug and play or am I missing something? If I touch the two wires together, shouldn’t it close the zone. Right now I’m getting nothing. |

Most wired Intrusion Detection Systems have resistors in the circuit. Look in the can, if there are no resistors on the terminal strip where the contacts are landed, they are field connected. Most are 2.2K ohm resistors, and a lot of installers will leave the extras in the can, at least we did when I did those. There is a lot of info on the web about installation, some research will reveal a circuit and how to connect the resistor with the contact. |

Open circuit= no continuity between the positive and negative= trouble alarm for open circuit (panel thinks the lines are cut) Normal circuit= positive into normally open terminal, negative into common, specified resistor bridges normally open and common terminals= all is well, system normal Short circuit= positive has perfect continuity to negative (the switch closed bypassing the resistor, or you touched the wires together)= system goes into alarm It could be done backwards (short becomes normal, normal becomes alarm) but I've never seen that |

Two types of sensors, normally open NO or normally closed NC. Usually a panel can be configured either way, as long as all sensors are the same type. I think I have a bag of white NC sensors left over after replacing the windows in the last house. |
