Looking to get some budget IR laser/illuminator + Vis laser. I don't plan to shoot a whole lot under NODs, so I don't want to drop a whole lot on devices. I plan on getting 1 to start, but would eventually end up with 3. With that said, after looking at my options I narrowed it down to Holosun Iris-3GR or InvisibleSight Ngal MK5. Iris 3s are around 800, and looks like the NGAL clone is about 1k. Wanted to see what people's insight are on both, either, or maybe have other options I should look at. |

I have a IRIS 3 with the green laser and It’s been a really good unit. I actually use mine in NV matches and I’m often shooting with active duty SF guys running Raids, FP PEQs and MAWLs. I don’t feel like I’m at a huge disadvantage against those guys although the targets we shoot rarely exceed 150 yards. I have a very budget setup. With a PSA rifle, a Photonis Echo PVS-14 and the IRIS I haven’t placed outside the top 8 in any of the NV competitions I have shot. And this match has an extremely high number of active duty SF guys shooting it. The slider on the IRIS alone is the difference maker. I run mine without a tape switch so my thumb is always on the unit itself. I can easily expand or choke down the IR illumination cone. When I’m transitioning from close, nearly contact distance targets, to steel plates that have been already shot a bunch of and are a gray smear 100+ yards away, and then back to a close target, the slider makes customizing the illuminator a breeze. A buddy of mine got a SMS Trinity and it’s been a surprisingly good unit too. The controls are similar to the IRIS, but I actually like the customizable settings it offers over the IRIS. As much as I love my IRIS, If I was on a budget, I’d get the SMS Trinity. I’m building a 300BLK and that’s the unit I’m going to put on it. |
