First off, I don't know anything about wood refinishing. I cobbled up this suppressed takedown 10/22 and the wood on the stock was originally WAY darker than the forend. (two different sources) I was able to lighten it up a bit, but the wood on the stock is rough open grain and the forend is nice and smooth. I would rather not dick with the forend, but want to get the stock to match it better. Any ideas on how to do that? Tony   |
| The fore end looks like walnut while the receiver is birch. Sand it smooth to 300 grit and apply a sealer then stain the piece with a non penetrating stain; something dark brownish. Apply finish once stain iss dry. You will never get birch to match walnut but it will look better. |

| the ONLY way you will have a shot will be to sand both parts and refinish at the same time , sand around/up to the checker but leave the checker be , hand sand , and just take your time a little here , little there and you will get it done , trying to match you are just making it harder on yourself when you finally reach the conclusion ,and you will that you need to do both parts over and at the same time |
