I don’t mean to hijack this thread, I think it is on topic. PSA/ H&R is now offering a M14, obviously has to be semi auto only. With a billet (not forged) receiver, new barrel, stock and handguard. Military surplus remaining parts. What’s the difference between it and a Springfield M1A, other than name? Thanks ETA Changed receiver info, I wrote forged and they are billet |

Thanks Springfield’s has a cast receiver and lots of their USGI parts dried up a few years ago. They use many new production parts now. The Reese family that owns Springfield used to obtain their USGI parts through their surplus business, Reese Surplus. |

The H&R marked receivers for this limited outsource run are going to be machined from billet, not forged. PSA released video basically confirmed that they (H&R) don't have expertise or any inside resource to build one at this point. But they put out a statement that they have multi-year plans to bring back M14 and M1 Garand. I have to assume the USGI parts will be utilized just for this limited run due to USGI parts mostly dried out, not really available in large quantities. If (big if) they can manage to scale up and eventually offer full production in the next few years, parts probably will be just commercial new production like Springfield, Fulton, JRA, LRB that increasingly using aftermarket parts. My guess will be the new M14 parts sourced from Taiwan if that happens. Now below is purely my speculation look into the future: I cannot stop thinking that JJE may consider acquire JRA at some point in the future to bring M14/M1 Garand expertise already established inside JRA. It's not something H&R will be able to quickly build by itself without some accumulated experience on those firearms. From business standpoint, it make sense to just buy out JRA if JJE and H&R can achieve a profitable business model selling M14/M1 Garand. We shall see.... |

CMP is doing US made Garand receivers, with full rifles supposedly costing $1900. I've held one of the prototypes and seen it shoot flawlessly in a match, and CMP wouldn't sell junk. I'd expect them to be equipped with Faxon Barrels, and parts will be a mix of USGI and new US production CMP sourced parts (e.g. the gas cylinder). H&R will be competing against some pretty established names with the M14 and M1 projects, and will need to find a way to keep the price competitive. |

That’s probably their targeted audience. Their AR retro stuff is more expensive because people pay extra for the markings. |
