Ever since I bought a Ruger SP101 in .327 Fed Mag, I've lusted after a lever gun in that caliber, but just couldn't force myself to pull the trigger on a Henry. Well, my son changed all that and now I have one! Just picked this up at the FFL: Henry Big Boy .327 Fed Mag Attached File I'm kinda irked I can't shoot it this weekend due to other pressing commitments, but it's damn sure going next Friday! |

I’d rather see an 1894c in .32 H&R again. Congrats on the new rifle though! Looking forward to your range report. Now a lever gun is one place I could see the extra oomph of the .327 Federal being a handy option. I have a SP101 in .327 but all it ever sees is H&R loads. I just don’t want to put up with the obnoxious blast of the Federal in a handgun. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

OK- today was range day finally and here’s the range report. First off, the rifle feeds .327 ammo flawlessly; .32 H&R Mag and .32 S&W Long, not so much - then again, I didn’t really expect it to. I ran Federal 100 grain JHP’s over my chronograph (Garmin Xero makes this sooo easy) from both the rifle and my SP101 pistol. •Henry (20” barrel): Average (5 shots) 2016 fps, Muzzle energy 903 ft/lbs •Ruger SP101 (4” barrel): Average (5 shots) 1469, Muzzle energy 551 ft/lbs Quite the difference between the 2! Recoil in the rifle was nothing to write home about, stout in the pistol. I did shoot a few .32H&R and .32 S&W Long just for kicks and they were pretty mild; .32 S&W would be a great pest round if I can get them to feed (gonna work on it some later). I’m gonna work up some handloads to try the next time. This is a great little rifle and it might even become a favorite! Here's an 11-round off-hand group at 25 yards- not bad for an old guy with squinty eyes and buckhorn sights.  Attached File |
