Came in a couple of days ago but I only had the chance to unbox it briefly before going out of town. It's an 1862 dated Springfield M1861. Probably gave a couple hundred too much but a lot of these earlier-war Springfields are pretty beat - I passed on a couple in comparable condition some time back and was left looking for quite awhile thereafter. The main issue with this one is the cleaned metal, but at least whoever did it left the proofs and dates visible.          |

| For now it's a collection piece, but if/when I upgrade it could become a potential shooter or potential trading fodder. I did make sure it still had its rifling - it seems a lot were either shot out, rusted out, or bored out to shotguns. |

Wow. Amazing survivor. Probably a rack gun most of it's life? I was at a black powder shoot recently and my friend brought his Springfield and he was SMACKING a gong at 50 yds. I can't imagine getting hit by that big hunk of lead. |

I think the barrel did get scrubbed up a bit by a past owner. The real highlight is the stock, its condition certainly suggests life in the rack.
