I'm bored a lot of evenings (work away from home). Figured I'd get a project to keep me busy (i.e...out of trouble). On eBay got a fairly rough Beeman R7 (no safety, San Rafael era)...stock has little finish left, some surface rust on the barrel, but it shoots OK per the seller (showed some targets). Going to take it down, steel wool the rust off, maybe touch up the bluing, strip the stock, refinish gently. I did order a Vortek kit for that one (breech and piston seals, PG4 kit) knowing that the spring had broken. While I was watching that one, another San Rafael R7 popped up...much better shape, no history though, and I made a ridiculously low offer and they took it. That one's going home, and depending on how the first one turns out, might do a Vortek kit in it (doesn't look like it needs refinished). Anyone do any work on their spring piston air rifles? Any suggestions (stripper, wood finish, etc.). I have a good size batch of Brownells stuff at home (old, so might have to replace) to do the refinish work. Not sure on grease (moly?) for reassembly, etc. Thanks for any tips. Videos or pictorial instructions on line would be great on the takedown, etc. Thanks! |

| I resprung and new piston sealed my R9 with a Macarri Kit. Honed the inside of the receiver and knocked down all the sharp edges on the receiver. Used a good moly lube and a slightly shorter spring. Lined the inside of the piston with a cut up water bottle to reduce the twang from the spring. Polished the connections that rub when cocking and the inside/outside of the spring. It is very nice subtle shot cycle and pretty consistant with cheap Crosman .22 pellets. |
