I know that an S&K scope mount puts the scope to the left side of the receiver. Is that better for a lefty than a righty? I am lefty.I have a Camp Perry built M1 in 308. Great shooter but I need optics for old eyes... Also, I can not find any ID marks on the barrel. Looked in the usual spot (under the op rod)but nothing |

I have a scoped M1 Garand (same reason, old eyes with no guarantee of having glasses on my face when I need to shoot something). It's an Amega Ranges scout scope mount. It replaced the lower handguard. Mounts (clamp system) to a standard GI contour barrel. Uses a long eye relief scope (like a pistol scope). Does not interfere at all with clip ejection or loading. Works like a charm. I bought some quick detachable rings for mine (Warne) and have tested them by removing the scope/rings from the rail and then reinstalling them. I was off about an inch from the original zero at 100 yds. With that long eye relief scope you should aim/shoot with both eyes open. If you decide you don't like it you just removed the barreled action from the stock, remove the screws from the plate/handguard and put the original handguard back on the rifle. Mine is staying as is. I like it a lot. Not sure if Amega Ranges is still in business. There was another company making them but I don't remember the name right now. |

Ultimak and Amega Ranges were the two companies that made them. I gave them serious thought about putting one on one of my “Tankers”. One of the companies does not recommend using theirs on a “Tanker”, though I don’t remember which one it was. The downside is that because they’re made of Aluminum, there’s more heat transfer. So, they can get very hot. I’m not sure if Ultimak(IIRC) is still in business. |
| What struck me is that the scout mounts were twice the price. I have a scout mount on another rifle (Israeli mauser) not really a fan. |

These guys have a mount that replaces the rear sight for micro dots and some small prism scopes. I might be trying one. Bad aces tac |

Thanks for the reminder. COGBURN is the one I would go with. It’s just a beater CMP gun and it is a great shooter. |
