Jim Cirillo stated that the cut down M1 Carbine loaded with JSP was the most effective weapon they used on the Stakeout Squad. Better than AR-15 s, SMGs, or even buckshot and less over penetrating than slugs. Remember this was the late 60s, and 5.56 was limited to M193. They lacked one robber with four criss-crossing doses of 00 buck through the chest and still had to deliver an anchor shot with a slug outside the store. |

That setup would be pretty good for a non gun wife or girlfriend. Get a cheap can, a reliable dot sight, teach her to run it, then put it somewhere readily accessible in case of trouble. No kick, minimal report with the can, light, easy to instinctually operate. |

Good stuff, for nostalgia’s sake. Someone will be along to note that you get essentially the same thing with a short 300 BLK (110 grain .30 ca bullet at 2000-ish fps), but with better bullet design, mags, ergos, etc. I still like the little Carbine. I need to load more ammo for mine. It tends to throw brass and I lose half of it. |

Assuming a brand new barrel. I would like to have seen benchrest groups at 50 and 100 yards in this video. I've got a couple. I put a 1960s Weaver K4 on one by way of one of those Korean War era infrared mounts. Nothing irreversible. It's a three to four inch gun. Can't do much with it past 100 yd. Funny/sad story. I took my son to the range when he was around 10 or 12 years old. Previously only shot pistols at cans. Gave him the whole safety, handling, what to do, run through. Got him all ready to fire, gave him the go-ahead and at the last second I saw him shoulder the rifle to his left eye and realized the butt recoiled straight into the center of his sternum. Light as the recoil was he was wailing and wouldn't come to the back to the range with me for years. Had no idea he was left-eyed. |
