Initial Impressions are good, accuracy as expected for FAL (more on accuracy in final paragraph), and this one has the spring twist off (long) flash hider. Choosing a gas regulator number that will not hold the bolt open after last round was interesting, and the 147gr. ammo led delivered 3-5 as the set and forget no. for that ammo. Half settings on the regulator are the way to think of it, and it is currently sitting 1/2 to one PAST the setting that first holds the bolt open. After having access to (4) FAL rifles belonging to friends, I chose as my first: G1 assembled from an FN kit complete with 21 in. FN barrel complete with proof marks and lug. This one was assembled after new parkerizing and ready to go! The receiver is DSA forged/ G1 type where they engraved similar lettering to original and placed the serial number inside the magwell opening. The kit was then built by an individual and not assembled as a factory build. DSA previously offered a collector G1 with all? USA parts which the rifle in this write-up is not. This one is being enjoyed and not sitting as any collector piece. The current market (late 2025) brings lower prices on some used rifles and gear, although the number of G1 fans had me move on this quickly. Accuracy? Does flash hider reduce/ limit accuracy when used? I've never seen data to suggest others have reduced accuracy while using a G1 Flash hider. I believe they can, and my impression about this particular rifle is that accuracy may be affected by the hider/ flash reducer although it seems very minor and not noticeable. At least some of those that found better accuracy with it removed are believers. My recent past experience is with four other StG 58 FAL with either 18 or 21 inch some with/ some without Austrian "Stoll" muzzle device. |
