Do we want to make a quick thread with the best practices for submitting a form 1 suppressor? I looked at this years ago, but I forget. You have to declare a length on the form 1, should you shy a little longer, or shorter? Does the caliber really matter? Any other tips to keep things on the up and up? |

I did 6 today. I seem to recall that back in the DM days it was suggested to err on the long side. That's what I did, but I kept sizes close to what I'd want. I'm pretty sure you can amend size on the form after building. I have not been uploading any material or tool photos. I've just been uploading a word document explaining that I have not procured any materials and I haven't determined what I use, but it won't be a "kit", etc. |

I really want to try 3d printing a bunch. I imagine I'll write something similar for mine. |

It's been over ten years since I've form 1'd mine... I'm sure things have changed a bit. I would like to efile several, a step by step would be greatly appreciated if someone were to do so.... the whole plans to use what and pic of material?? wtf is that all about?!? |
|
Got my first approval today submitted 8am on 1/1/26 my second I submitted on 1/3/26 @ 7" I should have done 8" and might go through the process of changing the OAL. Which my understanding is just a letter. |

Also, I've been inputting 24" for the length of my silencers for the last 8yrs or so. This way, I'm not shoehorned into a parameter that might not work. If it only turns out to be 8", it's a simple letter letting them know. Yes, perfectly legal to make a silencer shorter, via a repair. |

You can piggyback with existing model names, you can call it the 478UltraMangulator, or Fred. They don't really care beyond the point of it already being on their list or not. |

The main thing though, if you put a new unique model name in that's not in the drop drop of previously used models, your application will enter a phase called Pending Research where someone has to review that new model before it goes to the Submitted/In Process phase. This usually makes that form take longer. |

I did 5 form 1 cans a few years ago, and then I filed 10 on 3 JAN 26 with an additional 3 on 4 Jan 26. I got the first 10 back approved 11 Jan 26. On all of them I have put the following: "Will be made on my lathe and Mill using material purchased from online metal suppliers" Then I hand draw a very rough looking suppressor and take a picture and then upload it, like this: Attached File I pick an already listed model number and my own serial number. Has not been a problem. |

Does everyone just have a copy of finger print cards saved? Or is there something more to it? |

Including what I plan for baffle design. I don't know how much you can push that. My other cans have pretty much caliber specific. Based upon others comments I would think you would want to use the largest caliber you expect to shoot through it. Before the new changes I have done the paper copy for fingerprints. My first 2 form 1s I did years ago I had done at the sheriff's department. Then I bought the cards and an InkPad and did my own. With the new changes I made an appointment at the closest printscan and had them electronically done. Makes it much easier. A note on the EFT (electronic fingerprints). If done at a place like printscan you cannot actually access the file. You can download it to a computer and upload it to eforms, but you can't actually access it without special software, or something like that. I did not completely understand that at first. |

It's my understanding that whatever caliber you make it , a bullet of that diameter must be able to pass through it. If you were to list it as a 45 cal, but the baffles were only .280 diameter, that would be a no-no |

my Form 1 was disapproved. says i need to send them "pictures of the parts" a "description of the process i will use to make it" or the " product model, or kit name, if any, of each device and/or part you will use to make" or " the source from which the parts were obtained, IE website , store, etc" i guess i'm going to send them a picture of a fuckin lathe, blocks of steel and tubing. wtf. on my form i sent a Cad drawing of all lengths, adapters, thread pattern etc. this has worked the past few form 1's, i guess no more. ETA: i may scrap this entire idea and just buy a fuckin can, it would be less a pain in the ass. i guess they just throw away the submitted form 1 if i dont follow up with this?!? |

My form 1 is still outstanding. I'm kind of expecting it to get rejected. I mentioned lathe and mill, but i still have a feeling. Buying all the cheap cans available is kind of looking easier and more fun suddenly. We will see. Its a shame ECCO isn't still rebuilding cans. I'm kind of feeling stacking as many "stamps" as I can while they are free. I'm having a bad feeling the political pendulum is going to swing the other way. |

Can you buy a titanium tube with HUB threads and a endcap from a online supplier and 3D print the baffles? I had a form 1 can approved years ago and realized it wasnt gonna work. I was going to order titanium ASR threaded tubing from SPC and get ECCO to recore. I cancelled the F1 and got a ATF refund but I wouldnt mind making a .22lr fat suppressor for my AR22. Use 1.5" titanium tubing and a 1/2x28 HUB direct thread mount. Print the baffles. Would I need to file another F1 for a "recore"? Or a core "repair". Who sells titanium tubing these days? Can I even but it now after all the ATF F1. every part has to be F1'd stuff a couple years ago? |

I see that my questions have been asked countless times lol. I end up researching so much stuff as a die hard DIY'er I get exhausted so I just ask sometimes. Is there any sticky where good suppliers are listed? I have a CAD designer who can design me the bafffles since my tube is going to be a bigger diameter than typical .22lr tubes. And aluminum is going to be just fine for tube material. When I think about it, If I can source the materials, I should just make like 4 of them, LOL. So now I need to research mini lathes. That mini CNC mill is calling my name too. |

I've looked at mini lathes a lot. The consensus seems to be that all the 7x14's are the same, so get the cheapest one on amazon and call it good. The 8x's aren't worth the price premium, but from there the Little Machine Shop ones are well liked. |

I was going to say find a used Southbend heavy 10 with some tooling... well worth the space and price. but damn the prices have doubled in the last five years. |

Yeah, I keep looking at used machines. Sometimes deals are out there, but the machines are all getting to be 50 years old in some cases. Sitting in some guys garage in a lot of cases. I'd love to rescue a vintage machine, but thats a project in itself. Getting a PM won't be 100% trouble free, but I bet the price difference is getting pretty slim once you figure everything in. Update: submitted form 1 on 1/21. Still nothing either way. |
