I just got my first ACR, the DMR 5.56 version.
It comes with the Super ACR trigger. I also got the 6.8SPC conversion kit. It will spend the vast majority of its time as a 6.8. What are the typical first upgrades to consider? I would like to change the handguard. It's a 4 pic rail. |

Yeah, the legacy quad rail is gross.
Bushmaster has their factory Squaredrop (Keymod) and MLOK handguards available now. They are nicely made and look pretty good while offering a modern lightweight mounting system. Bushmaster usually has a Black Friday sale for 20-25% off if you sign up for their emails. Midwest makes very nice MLOK handguards in 12" and 9" lengths. Both cheaper than the factory handguards. Brownells carries them as well, so you can scoop them up on a 10% off sale for some extra savings. KRG has an extended length MLOK+MOE L2 handguard as well. There are some other options like the MLOK handguards from RPM out of Canada that are nice, but he's a one man show and has extended lead times. I bought one, great handguard, but it took 3 months and the communication wasn't good. I'd stick with one of those 3 above. RemDef v2 handguards pop up periodically too, dead sexy, but last one I saw sold for $1200.  It's been hinted they may come back as a commercial offering, but that RAHG mount system is pretty dead. The new Bushmaster handguards are pretty similar in functionality and appearance, just without the useless QD swivel mount (that is on the commercial ACR receiver right next to it) and the useless RAHG system.

Personally I like the Remington qd swivel stud in the rail. The ones on the receiver just get in the way and snag on my bag when I pull it out. There’s a lot of options out for the Acr now. Especially with BM stepping up with their parts and accessories. Also don’t forget about Krg, their parts are pricey but absolutely worth it. |
