so purchased these for the mag collection , everything looked good in the pics at least to me so i purchased , i will not say from who as they are very reputable and have dealt with them for years and they handled it when i contacted them professionally, swiftly , apologetically , and amicably so no need to drag their good name into it , im only doing this to bring these to light for what they are when i received them two things immediately stood out , first was only 7 faint spot welds on the fold , the second was the OM stamp was up higher than the other examples i had seen , this led me into a deep dive , i found a link to a E-book on M14 mags , downloaded it , fantastic resource , its free and downloadable from Lulu which has a very high Rep score https://www.lulu.com/shop/lee-emerson/pictorial-m14-magazine-identification-guide-version-19/ebook/product-22539324.html?page=1&pageSize=4 i then found a archived thread on "The M14 Forum" and lo and behold the discussion was about the exact mags , right down to the pouch and lettering , even same date https://www.m14forum.com/threads/winchester-magazine-question.101825/ i have taken pics of the issues and will give explanation with each issue as pictured first the mags , one in sealed wrap , the other opened , wrap still present      spot welds on the fold were one of the initial red flags , they were so faint i had to wipe a layer of oil to count , there were 7 , should be 11   next was the placement of the OM stamp , it was higher on the mag than what i had seen on others  OM stamp on a good mag  next the latch plate , should have 5 ,4 each corner then the 5th center low , these mags have 6 , 4 each corner 2 center high/low  next the follower , should be OM marked left side , also should have 3 round spot welds , this follower is absent the OM and has 2 oval spot welds    i have read that the springs are another tell tale however i do not see anything wrong with this spring , plenty of tension and does not appear "crude" as the fakes are described , im including pics of the springs in case someone sees something they can elaborate on    these are out there , while researching i came across a advert for these , they picture a case full , this is NOT where i purchased , ive never bought anything off that site , just merely showing these are around so be aware  |

when i thought they were old new stock viet nam 1970 they were $95 + shipping , i thought the same thing when they were counterfeiting Sig Romeo Red Dots and selling them for $100 , scammers will be scammers , look at the weirdos standing out at traffic lights pan handling in 100 heat , or 15 degree snowy weather all day , wouldnt be easier and better to take that same time and effort and get a actual job? no matter how good they look at glance , and how bad you may wish them to be a unicorn , the documentation of what real mags have/need to be legit that has been compiled by those that know far more than you or i say , nope |
