My recollection(probably wrong  ), Duck tape was a brand name, Duct tape was a mispronunciation of duck as real duct tape was a metallic tape for joints in HVAC ducts.Came to post this. My dad was in the biz and we always had gaffers tape around the house. Sticks to anything, tears easily, take effort to remove it, but it doesn't leave residue when you pull it off. |

See this chart for comparisons of various brands/types of tape: Tape Chart As mentioned above, Nashua 357 is likely the tape with most general utility and best overall specs. Other specific (and unusual) applications may call for a different tape. |
