I mean the whole no dual use barrels is what's been stopping importation, right?
Maybe we'll be able to buy direct from Steyr Austria

The 'American' barrels are still Steyr Austria blanks, with the cold hammer forging done in Austria. It's just some final machining and the nitriding done here

I’m working with someone to form 6 some very special barrels… if I get it approved and delivered I’ll post pics.

Ahh yes keep that 5k 4150 barrel when steyr offers a 10k austrian space metal barrel. If we're going to be completely real a BCA CHF barrel can shoot just as good as a CHF KAC, DD, or a G$ CHF barrel. Remember BCA uses the same Steyr Austrian CHF machine. DD and KAC are using outdated CHF machines

Importer I’m working with is very interested in my endeavor and I have some sources in Europe for different versions of AUG barrels. I haven’t been this excited for AUG stuff in a long time…

It's unfortunate this happened only now that the Malaysian kits are mostly or likely all already torched.

Very cool.  It'd be awesome to get those in.  Any idea on price?  People may be hesitant if these cost as $1,000+ like a SCAR barrel, but $700 or so for a genuine Steyr CHF/CL barrel would be pretty reasonable.

The current US barrels are mostly made in Austria (CHF blanks shipped to US for final machining). So presumably the US nitrided barrels also are Austrian steel 'space metal'. (does anyone know the Steel used in Austrian AUGs?)

Difference would be then that the Austrian barrels would be Chrome instead of nitride.

The problem that is going to hurt is tariffs and duties. The form 6 approval requires a customs broker and they don’t mess around. If the cost is 500 euro I honestly don’t know what my final cost will be.

I'd be in for an Austrian chrome lined barrel for almost any price.

wouldn't it make the most sense for Steyr Austria to send them to Steyr USA to sell like other parts?

If that happened it would be in about 7 years from now…

I can't imagine an Austrian CHF barrel shooting more accurate than the current non-CHF nitride ones. I assume the real benefit is shooting accurate to 10K .vs 5K.

Im around 1500 rounds for my nitrided barrel so I have a ways before I find out.

The chrome lined 16” barrel that my 2009 example came with is much more accurate than the 24” from last year. Need to test other ammo in it but it’s disappointing in comparison so far.

the current ones are still CHF, they're just nitrided instead of chrome lined

Your 16 inch barrel is also more stiff than a 24 inch barrel.

Different harmonics.

Nitride is less expensive and less labor intensive of a process and general consensus is it holds up more or less as well as chrome lining.

I do not see any reason Steyr would decide to move back to a more expensive process for the barrel, especially in these market conditions.  There is a reason they switched to nitride in the first place.

after FN got fired for making shitty quality AUG barrels, Steyr USA was supposed to take over production but FedEx broke the CHF machine and it was apparently not reparable. Because of stupid US import laws they couldn't just use barrels made fully in Austria. The work-around was for Steyr Austria to ship barrels that were 90% complete but with some final assembly and finishing done here. Since all Austrian barrels are chrome lined by default, they shouldn't cost any more and may even cost less because they would arrive in the US already complete
