An obscure question I know, and I know there's a website called the Great 8 or such, but while I'm here, does anyone know if the Rem 8 has a two piece firing pin? I took mine apart, and a smaller section of the firing pin came out with the bolt. It all looks purpose made, as the small section has a large OD ring around it, doesn't look cut on broken on the end, and neither does the main part of the firing pin that stayed in the bolt carrier. It all went back together and the firing pin sticks out when I press on the back of it. So I'm wondering if this was a purpose made design, or something someone put in it at some point to replace the factory one. On various gun parts sites, it looks like the firing pin is a single part. |

Because I'm a nice guy I went into my library and pulled my very large copy of Numrich's Firearms' Parts Catalogue...all 1142 pages. It lists one firing pin, a retaining pin, and a firing pin spring. No mention of a two piece pin for either the 8 or the 81. |

That's what I figured - at some point since the 1930's, this Model 8 had another FP installed. I may get a replacement FP and try my luck at installing in. |
