As the title ask, does removing the fixed buttstock on a factory Colt leave any signs that might negatively impact the value of an M16 (or variants)? I know on a carbine, you have to break through the factory staking between the end plate and the castle nut if you wanted to, for example, install an A5 buffer tube. If you remove the fixed buttstock, does it leave any similar tell-tale signs? It’s been many years since I have messed with a fixed buttstock and don’t full remember how they go together and come apart. |

Short answer - No. If you're replacing the fixed stock with a collapsible one, you will have the back of the lower covered with a stock plate, which will keep the rear takedown pin spring in place. Plus, if the fixed stock was properly installed, it will have very little wear in that part of the lower. |
