TL;DW: First off, I do have an affiliate link and code ("ForwardAssist") to Sukon Performance. Just want to be clear on that, but they did not pay me to make this video or have any input on it. With that out of the way, there are pros and cons to suppressor covers. They add weight, bulk, and obviously cost, and also delay cooling. However, they are extremely useful as PPE when doing a lot of suppressed shooting and then needing to sling a rifle. They are also pretty much a necessity when doing precision shooting if you have a lightweight suppressor and are shooting any kind of higher round count. I found that my OCM6 with a 1-8 LPVO didn't really require a cover for the 10ish round PRS stages I was shooting, but my Hydrogen L is getting too hot to touch after about 5 rounds and I've got a 5-25 on that rifle. They'll also hide the IR glow if that's important to you. As for rail covers, the only real downside (besides cost) is that they can block your rail as far as attaching things goes. This will all depend on where you grip the rifle, how long it is, and what accessories you're using. I like the two I've got but I don't feel a need to go out and get any more. What's your take? |
| I've got a couple Modtac carbon fiber suppressor shields on SIG MCXes. They're pretty lightweight and don't hold in heat like a cloth or rubber cover. The only downsides are the expense and the fact that they won't work with all rails. I'm pretty happy with mine. |

Yup, but even just mirage is reason enough for me to always use a cover. I can't stand it even when using a 1x RDS. It is downright awful with magnification. |

My hunting weapons and target/range ones get covers. Less need really for deer hunting due to so rounds fired, typically one or two, so not needed. My SBRs all get suppressor covers, including my HD weapon. I do need rail covers for sure. I prefer suppressor covers to deal with mirage and you only need to get burned once!! Anyone use the Mantis or Bowers silicone ones? Seem to allow for some cool. |
