So I've had my 17 for a lotta years and it's always had an ACOG TA-11E on a LaRue QD mount up top. Decent enough with its 3.4 magnification to get me out to 200 yards. I used it in a DMR competition years ago and even it had trouble seeing a 6" out just over 200. So I've been considering some manner of variable scope and may have an opportunity to get a Vudu heavily discounted. What's the consensus on these with a 17? Will these hold up or will I end up with a bag of broken parts after I run some mags through it? |

I have no experience on this, but I've heard it suggested two things: the mount should not be cantilevered, pick a modern day scope from a high quality manufacturer. FWIW, I'm running a VCOG and have had no issues. Albeit, less than 300 rounds through the setup. ETA: I guess i do have some experience... |

With a proper mount I’d find it pretty unlikely that it would. If it did it would likely be covered by EO Tech’s warranty but I completely understand why a lot of people would place actual durability over customer service/warranty. Who gives a shit what warranty your scope has if you’re employing it in a lethal force scenario and it shits the bed on you at the worse possible time… The American Defense Manufacturing one was the one approved/selected by SOCOM for use with the SCAR and has an NSN, if that means anything to you: https://www.admmfg.com/delta-mount While my SCAR-17 doesn’t have an exceedingly high round count (1K+) the Vortex 1x10 Razor I have mounted in it has had zero issues at this point in time. Arguably mount selection is a close second to optic selection when it comes to SCARs, particularly 17s/H variants and there’s no doubt that there’s arguably no other platform that is more UNfriendly to scopes/mounts than the SCAR. I’m pretty sure I heard of the combination I ended up buying on the FN Forums, where there’s no shortage of good information on this exact subject, and likewise no shortage of folks that have had their optics self destruct in short order when mounted on a SCAR. It’s hardly hyperbole or anecdotal, but just requires some extra thought before you find things out the hard way. |

All good points. I think my BUIS is visible through my ACOG but any scope would have a different eye relief so I can see how a co-witness would be irrelevant/not possible. This will turn out to be my first scoped rifle of any kind. I've read through threads about this subject in the past. I should have taken notes! |
