Dillon RL550. Help......Now with Dillon PM tuning (Page 2 of 2)

Next up on the fix list appears to be priming. I currently seem to have a small primer cup inside the press, and the primer tube seems to be large primer with a tore up tip. I see I can get a $50 parts kit that comes with tube tips and primer cups. Maybe i will order that and just replace the cup and tip instead of ordering a whole large primer unit??? ( Edit: nevermind, figured out dillons website on ordering parts) I did mount a universal decap die in the press and decapped some brass. So i have the #1 shell plate indexing great, spent primers are falling in their trash cup and the finished ramp thing is working. Sliding them down in the bin. |

Dillon uses a large and small primer feeding tube. You can’t just swap tips. But you only need one of each. The primer cup: it’s better to have a large one and a small one both mounted on their own slide assembly. That will make it easier to swap for large to small.

Just a tip for when you do decide to start loading with a powder measure. I found the Hornady case activated powder measure works better than the Dillon for rifle. I have both a 550 and 750. I only use the Dillon powder measures for pistol rounds. I think RCBS also has one but the Hornady is easier to find. |

Great success in loading some 6.5CM today. Still waiting on parts for priming on the press, but i needed to trim anyways, so i just sized and took the brass back off. Then primed off the press, charged and seated on the press. I put the internal funnel for .264 rifle in the normal dillon powder die, then sat my 6.5mm Saturn funnel on top. Put a piece of brass in, and turned down the die until the internal funnel made contact with the saturn funnel up top. Put a little plumbers tape to shim the saturn funnel for a little tighter fit. I have a 3d printed tray bolted to a piece of scrap angle iron. I wouldn’t even have that but the press came with the strong mount and you can’t just load from a box very easily when it’s sitting that high. |

Side note quesrion for those who have bought from Dillon's online store. I have made two orders so far. Both times the charge hit as $0 (probing charge to see if payment method is good???) And both times my bank has seen that as suspicious and shut off my accounts. I order stuff from places all the time, and dont have this happen. Is this common or something my specific bank sees as suspicious? |
