I realize these just came out a few days ago, but if/when anyone gets one in hand I'd love to hear your thoughts on them. I've watched all the Youtube videos but I don't implicitly trust launch video reviews for obvious reasons. I'm not looking to replace my existing thermals so the small thermal sensor doesn't concern me much, especially for the price. I'm mostly concerned with the 4k sensor's 30 fps refresh rate and how well that sensor performs at night w/ onboard and external IR illumination. I don't know the dimensions of the day/night sensor, but I'm worried that if they used the same physical sensor size that the smaller pixel size associated w/ 4k may reduce sensitivity in the near-IR spectrum. I would really like that to not be the case, but I don't want to pick one up and then discover the new 4k sensor is no discernible improvement over the the 1080 sensor on my Zulus V2 5x. The main reasons I didn't buy a zulus 4k was the form factor (tube instead of prismish) and refresh rate. I love my Zulus V2. I bought it to use as a backup and rimfire scope because of how cheap it is but I wound up selling my PVS-27 and Impact 4000 because of how effective I found it to be while also knocking 5+ pounds off of the the gun. The V2's day mode during dusk/low light is also freakishly good while still providing full color, I was not expecting that. The thought of having all the Zulus capabilities plus PIP thermal all for less than what I was paying for a decent IR laser 5 years ago is pretty enticing. TL/DR: Does the 30 fps refresh rate cause noticeable lag w/ motion and how does the sensor do with IR illumination in night mode? |

Hello, I don’t have the new 4K Thermnight . I do have the Thermnight 335. The 335 and 635 with 4K will be released later this year. I would wait on one of them as I’m sure the sensors will be better in the upgraded models. Sorry that does not answer your question. |

I have the 335R And just got the 4k216r. The refresh rate seems to be very good, the picture is crystal clear, and for the money, I'm extremely happy. I did have to dick with more settings to get it to my liking, and you have to fuck with the focus more since it's much crisper. I love that they now have it where it syncs the thermal to the NV workout you having to sight in both, although I will verify it tomorrow. Well worth $1,200.00. |

When time permits, can you please comment on the comparison between the day/night channels on the 335r vs 4k216r in the following circumstances? 1. Dawn/dusk in day mode on both. Still good color image in both and does the 30 fps refresh rate on rhe 4k cause noticeable lag? 2. Darkness with both passive from a stable position. 3. Darkness with both using onboard IR. These look like an incredible bang for the buck, I just wish that 4k had a 60 fps refresh rate. The battery life would take a hit and the file sizes would be even more huge so they'd likely have to increase onboard memory. |

Earl, If you don't mind, would like to know your thoughts on how much better the 335R's thermal image quality is vs the 4K219R. Currently do not have any night vision devices, and am considering a ThermNight just to cross that off the list. I don't hunt, so really it will be a range toy; not sure I can justify double the price tag for the 300 series. Thanks! |

Okay, I finally got some time to mess with it. I don't know the different refresh rates, but it lags less than my 335R. The crispness in daytime is almost distracting it's so clear. I was whipping it pretty good side to side and it kept up, it will lag on thermal doing that. Dusk vision is amazing, this weekend I may check it against my Zeiss to see how it is against non digital clarity at dusk. For what I do, I don't know that the 335R is necessary as I generally find something with a handheld, use the thermal to find out in the scope, then switch to the NV. With that said. 335 thermal versus 256 is significant. It shows you all the same heat sources but forget about telling the difference of a opossum versus a Coon at 100 yards. But that's what I love about these, the PiP NV/Thermal gives me great options and ability to reach out and identify and target all kinds of things. |

Awesome, THANK YOU for sharing your thoughts on the comparison. I'm probably going to have to buy one now. When I got my Zulus V2 last fall, I was absolutely dumbfounded by its ability to show a great, full color image in near darkness while in DAY mode. It smoked my normal day optics in those conditions, like not even close. It seemed like sorcery. I love, LOVE, LOVE that scope. The fact that it cost less than 90% of my IR lasers just made the situation seem to be bordering on the absurd. I'm not sure how they are able to pull all of that capability off at this price point but I'm not going to complain. I've got to figure out if I'm going to go w/ the one currently available or wait for a version w/ a better thermal sensor. Thanks again! |
