So I've been dabbling with a chest rig design for myself, a 'heavy' split rig setup. Finally got the first prototype of the basic platform done. Right now I'm just doing a MOLLE chest rig, but eventually will be sewing pouches directly to it. Heavily inspired by the Tactical Tailor split rig MAV, but with a few changes. The dimensions are slightly different (to allow for the sewn on pouches later) and I made the body out of the new heavy duty mesh stuff that's out there so that it will be way more breathable than other chest rigs (the same kind of mesh used in the Wet Werx hoodies - but in Atacs ix camo, though in this case I have the fabric reversed so that the smooth side would be up against my skin, so it would be a bit lighter in color than normal atacs ix) There is a webbing chassis built into it for stability and rigidity, and lightweight webbing sandwiched on the other side of the mesh fabric. I still need to do the yoke. It's going to be something like the Tactical Tailor X-harness, meets my belt kit yoke, and with all 6 straps attaching to the yoke (the bottom straps that go around your chest will attach to the bottom of the yoke basically) If this rides well, I'll tweak it and then work on doing the sewn on pouches. This kind of chest rig, btw - or fully wrap-around ones that aren't split-rigs - are super easy to make yourself with a basic home sewing machine if you take your time. I'll post some more pictures when I get it done.

I'm setting this one up with a couple of the Eagle USMC 2x2 mag pouches, the ones with fastex buckles, that are on the market right now. Two eagle canteen pouches. Then two of the older USGI canteen pouches to act as GP pouches outside of that. I might swap around the GP pouches with something else, but that's the plan for now. |

I would make it one column wider then. 4 for the mag pouch, then 3 each for the canteen pouches. |

I did this footprint because it's the footprint I need for the sewn pouches I want to put on there, so I just did molle to fit, which happened to be the same as the old split MAVs. I do have some other GP style 2 columns pouches, I'm going to play around with those too. Good suggestion overall though. |

But that's one of the things I like about the older canteen pouches, you can use them on 2 columns of molle. I designed my nalgene bottle pouches specifically to work with 2 columns of molle. Using more than that for water bottles, especially narrower ones like the nalgenes, is annoying. |
