First I was wondering if anybody knows if Samson is going to make / sell their folding stock again? Its been out of stock for ever. Next I was wondering if it is legal to install one of these stocks on a 16” barrel Mini 14 Tactical model? Does it still meet the 26” OAL limit with this stock installed? I'm asking this because Ruger only sells the folding stock model on the 18” barrel. I'm assuming they do this to meet the 26” OAL rule but was wondering if anybody out there can verify this one way or the other? The main reason I am wondering this is because I prefer the look of the look of the black version VS. the stainless one and was thinking of just buying a 16” Tactical and buying the stock separately if it is legal to do so. |

ATF measures for OAL w/ the stock unfolded or extended. Kel-Tec's SUB 2000 is 16" folded. |

Samson is supposedly introducing a new-style Mini side folder, so perhaps it's not a coincidence that the old-style folder has dried up at least for a while. Video |

Well, some of us having long-term, and personal use of many types of Mini-14 folding stocks, might disagree with the OEM Ruger (later Samson) side folder being the best of the bunch. That's arguable on some levels. Tapco Gen 2 Mini mags were some of the best Mini mags ever made, plastic or metal. Sure, Tapco went "overboard" at some point, but Tapco supplied fed compliant parts for many firearms and some decent magzines. |

Well, while i may not have the decades of experience that i am aware you have with the mini-14, I am old enough to remember when used factory folding stocks would sell for up to $800….just for the stock. While definitely not the most comfortable or practical stock, the oem folding stock is the correct stock for those looking to complete that original mini-14/ac556 folder aesthetic. Again, hopefully Samson doesn’t discontinue the original style folding stocks. It would be a silly thing for them to do especially with the explosion in popularity of sbr “micro-14’s” |

If Ruger was smart, they would release a Mini-14 SBR with the Samson folder and 13” barrel, set up like the AC-556. |

According to the Ruger rep I spoke to a few weeks ago the stock will eventually return to shopruger.com. He couldn't give a timeframe, but he said Samson was no longer licensed to manufacturer the stock and that Ruger would be using a new vendor when it's available again. He wouldn't elaborate further. Of course that kind of goes against what a Samson rep told me a few weeks earlier. He said they only lost the license to distribute independently and that they were still manufacturing stocks for Ruger, although he had no idea of what Ruger was doing with the stocks after removing them from shopruger.com. Best I can make of it is, who knows. |

I just called to check on my Samson stock backorder on ShopRuger. They originally thought some would come in on July 9, but there is no new date when stock is expected. The rep I spoke to said that he thought negotiations were still going on with Samson. It sounds like either Ruger or Samson have decided they should be making more money on these stocks but I’m just guessing. |
