I am looking at picking up one of the Condor LCS belts or the Slim Battle Belt. I want to try one of these styles of belts and see if I like it before moving into something better. My Hilikon-Tex Mini Training chest rig is almost perfect. The only downside I can find with it, is the lack of pouches for AR-15 mags. It holds four. I use the dangler for medical and my admin pouch for overflow of medical and various other things. The four small pistol magazine pouches I am using them for a light, extra pocket knife and multi tool. My tourniquets are strapped outside the rig and one inside the dangler and admin pouch. My question is about the Condor LCS and Slim Battle Belt. I want to use one of these belts to supplement my chest rig. Right now I’m using an old ALICE belt that works okay but I like the ease of modern pouches. I have a paddle holster for my handgun. Can it be used with either of these belts without having to use something to drop it down? I have a Safariland holster for my G19 that I’m going to repair and use it eventually with this belt setup. I just want something I can use to hold me over until then. I’ll be adding - 2 pistol mags 4 AR-15 mags 1 small IFAK just in case I need to ditch my chest rig for some reason. This is one piece of kit I can skip since my dangler can be taken off chest rig easily. 1 or 2 pouches for water bottles. This is something I’ll do in the future. I may have some surplus pouches to use for water bottle. I’m still looking through my old gear. I want to fight from my chest rig as my first line and my belt as my second line. Would the LCS belt work? Should I go to the Slim Battle belt? |

You will HATE your life trying to run all that on one of the belts like the LCS - even if you buy one of the expensive gucci ones. You really don't want to run more than a couple rifle and couple pistol mags, holster, maybe ifak, etc. on that kind of belt. They don't hold lots of weight well. And the Condor LCS belt - while I don't mind on occasion buying cheap gear for certain things, that belt is going to suck long term for real use. The flaps the hold the molle panels on that belt are held in place only by velcro. Real use of pulling out and putting in magazines will loosen that velcro up quickly and make it loose, making the pouches flop around. This kind of belt - if you get one of the nice ones (ATS makes one that is bar tacked into place and won't have the velcro issues listed above. I'd look at those before getting the Condor one. They are way nicer, made in the USA, and have decades of proven use), you don't want to load it up TOO much. It'll carry the 4 x rifle mag pouches for instance. But once you add water bottle pouches, you start to overload it. You will also want to add suspenders / harness to this once you get to this level of carrying gear, even if you leave the water bottle pouches off of it. You are turning a belt into a set of 'belt kit' - the old school (coming back into popularity now btw) load bearing equipment once you start carrying 4 rifle mags and water bottle pouches. This brings up all kinds of issues once you start doing this. Issues that can be addressed, but you need to start thinking differently once you get to that point. 1. If you really want 4 x or more rifle mag pouches on the belt AND water bottle pouches (I'm a big fan of water bottles on the belt btw), skip the kinds of belts you are looking at above, and get a belt that's actually designed as a belt kit. Wider, padded belt than the condor / ATS padded belt sleeves. There are starting to be good options on the US market to look at. The go-to option around here is the Crossfire DZ Rig. It's a modern, British style (the best kind) of belt kit, but it's a FULL set of belt kit, and possibly more than what you are wanting to spend, even if it's a really good deal for the $$$. Alternatively, you can build out a set of your own. There are some options for decent MOLLE belts. The budget (but well made) options is the SORD Patrol Belt. You WILL need a 'yoke' or harness for these. Don't get the SORD brand ones. But DO get a British style 6 or 8 point harness. The British (or Danish) surplus PLCE 6 point yokes work great for these, and aren't expensive. (If you can't find one for sale, yell at me, I have some in stock. The availability is off and on here in the USA) You can also look at the Hill People Gear Prairie belt if you are ABSOLUTELY sure that you don't want to run pouches in the back (like a buttpack / British style utility pouches) If you order from SORD, they have some good British style utility pouches for the MOLLE belts. The British 'Osprey' series of MOLLE utility pouches - they have about 5 different kinds - work well too, both for water bottle pouches and for utility pouches on the back if you want those. and they aren't expensive. 2. If you run this kind of belt - water bottle pouches and / or more than a couple mag pouches, be aware that making it work with most packs is going to be an issue. Most packs require the use of the waist belt for the pack to actually work right. And running a big belt is going to make that either impossible or hard to do, causing issues. There are workarounds for this - some packs work well with this IF the pack is small (like a basic assault pack) OR you are running a FULL set of belt kit, with water bottle pouches AND a buttpack / utility pouches across the back (like the Crossfire rig above) and you get a pack that is shorter than normal and will rest ON TOP OF the buttpack / utility pouches (this transfers the weight to the belt kit, which is riding on the hips, and acts kinda like the pack's built in belt). Most ALICE style packs work like this for most people for instance. 3. Running that size belt sucks in vehicles. Just be aware of that. It's doable, but it's annoying. 4. This sounds like alot of information, but re-read it. It's not that complicated once you break it down and understand it. Belt kit is coming back into popularity, and for a good reason. You are starting to see them being used on both sides in Ukraine ALOT these days. There is a huge thread on them - it's the 'Velocity Systems' thread if you scroll down. It's worth reading if you are interested in that kind of thing. The tl;dr version of all this? Those belts won't work. Get a belt designed to hold that much weight. And you will need a harness. Get the Crossfire DZ Rig, or get the SORD belt + a surplus PLCE harness if you want to see if that works for you on a budget. There ARE other options out there btw. Some good quality ones. But they are $$$$$ compared to those options. I make custom rigs for instance. But I never tell people to buy my stuff unless they REALLY know what they want, and want that specific thing. I think I need to rethink my idea for this belt setup and stop trying to throw everything at it but the kitchen sink. I found some pouches that will hold regular water bottles. I would like to have some water on me somehow. I think two rifle mags and two pistol mags and my handgun may be all I need. I would like to take the Hilikon-Tex rig and make my own and change some things. Make it at least have six mags. Maybe eight. Take the pistol mag pouches and have dividers in them so you can use it either as magazine pouches or for larger tools or something else. Just make it more versatile. The chest rig is fantastic and it makes me not carry more than I need. |

If you decide on sewing your own, chest rigs aren't hard to do, if you keep it simple. |

I decided to give the LCS belt a try. I won’t be running it so heavy. My pistol mags, handgun and maybe a rifle mag or two. I think I can add mags to my dangler on my chest rig and if so I can gain the extra mags there. I have a call into my local surplus guy to see if I can trade in some old ALICE gear and Condor MOLLE panel and pouches that are three cell. I asked if they had the USMC belt setup too. I think I’ll try that for a bigger and heavier setup. I’ll build two different setups over time. |

It works fine with a pistol, 2 x pistol, 1 x rifle, knife, minimal ifak, tourniquet, and a small pouch for a baofeng radio. You could probably get away running a second rifle magazine. It's not anywhere as nice a belt as the nicer belts I have, but I got it on clearance for like $20. |

If I like this style and setup I’ll step up and go with something more expensive. If you mod the ALICE gear right, it's not HORRIBLE, but the new load bearing equipment out there is SIGNIFICANTLY better. It's way more comfortable than chest rigs or plate carriers. Saying that, I run a Haley micro chest rig - 4 rifle mags - for my 'bump in the night home defense setup'. It's not much different in what it can carry than your helikon one. I switched over to chest rigs in the mid 2000's, but am switching back to belt kit for most stuff as I get older. I do like having a gunbelt though. I don't always need a chest rig goofing around on the property. Heck, I don't even take a rifle most of the time, but it's nice to have a pistol, a couple mags, a knife, and an IFAK setup. |

Sounds like my childhood in the late 70s and 80s lol. I was a kid who loved the military and military history. I was always at the surplus shops begging my parents to buy me something. Then I got a job and got my gear when I could afford it lol. I like the micro rigs especially for my neck and back issues. I need surgery and I can no longer wear a plate carrier loaded down. Letting gear sit at my waist and hips doesn’t brother me thankfully. I went and ordered the Condor Slim Battle belt too. I’m going to take my older gear to a surplus shop and sell it and use the money for better kit if I like these two sets ups. I’m also in Virginia so my mission set will change of what I can take and leave in the vehicle now. It’s crazy but I’m behind enemy lines. |

I have it listed on the EE with some Condor pouches and a Condor MOLLE panel chest rig and a Grey Ghost minimalist plate carrier. I doubt they ever sell on here. I have listed them a few times. eBay also takes a fee to sell and it’s not worth it. |

Update on the belt. I got the LCS belt in today an I’m waiting on the Slim battle Belt to come in. The LCS belt is kind of awesome. It’s very stiff and stitching is nice on it. The Velcro is very strong. Stronger than I was expecting. I’ll be attaching pouches and holsters to it later this weekend. I do adjust it with my regular belt and the only thing I’ll be changing to it is the buckle. The Cobra buckle will be ordered eventually. It’s a nice belt and I am happy with it. I’ll update in the slim battle belt when it comes in. |

I’ve not heard of one wrap Velcro. Any links? I decided to cancel the Slim Battle Belt and wait to find a USMC padded belt. I’m going to a surplus shop locally to sell some of my old surplus gear and maybe an old Kevlar helmet. Maybe they will have some of the things I’m looking for to build out a bigger belt. The gun belt I will have two pistol mags and I’m tempted to use my chest rig pouches made for pistol mags or tools and not put them on the belt. I will put two rifle mags and my IFAK will be the dangler on my chest rig. I don’t think I need a second one on my belt. But once I get this setup and try it out I can adjust and go from there. I did see some reviews online. I saw a couple guys running their MOLLE pouches between the two layers of belts. They said it holds and don’t move and works like they’ve been zip tied. I have some pistol mag pouch that are ALICE gear and I may zip tie them to belt until I can get MOLLE pouches. If I put the mags on my belt. I’m also going to attach two mags on the back of my dangler and see how they work there. It wouldn’t be a quick reload but I’d have them. The dangler has a lot of MOLLE on the back of it. Everything will be tested out around the house and outside in my yard until I can get to the range. Right now I’m taking care of my dad who is in the last stages of dementia and I can’t leave the house for long periods of time. So the shake down of gear will be minimal along with dry firing. |
