| Came into a No4 Mk1 cheap and the bore is kind of dark. Any tips on getting it back somewhat cleaned. |
I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me and say "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

I would first use a good solvent and bronze brushes to do a deep cleaning until the patches come out looking clean. If the bore still looks dark, a bronze bore brush wrapped with a patch coated in JB's Bore Paste does a good job of cleaning what is left in the barrel. Getting too aggressive when restoring a bore can cause damage and leave you with a tomato stake barrel. I have done quite a few this way with good results each time. Take your time and enjoy the workout. |

I have had good results with patches and sweets 7.62 Work it back and forth on the rod until it froths up let it sit 15-20 minutes push out with dry patches and repeat a few times. Never judge an old mil surplus gun by how the bore looks. I have had some pretty rough ones still shoot very well. |

One of the members here that’s a very talented gunsmith recommended this product. Apparently far superior to JB for dealing with the really nasty stuff. Best to clean it normally first and see how that goes. I like KG-1 or Boretech for carbon removal. Lots of good copper removers already suggested. |
