Does anyone have any experience with the 16" barreled Citadel Levtac-92 in 454 Casull ? Seems to be the only 16" lever action in 454 Casull for under $1K. Thanks in advance! |
| The Citadel website doesn't show them as a currently made rifle, so I guess that unless you find a used one (or a used 16" .454 Rossi, they also made 16" .480s fwiw) I think you're stuck with a 20" Rossi or your choice of 16" .44s and .45s from Rossi, Henry and Marlin if you're willing to take a hit on power. Paco has a good article on top pressures in Rossi 92s. |

I purchased a 454 Casull Levtac 92 new from Brownells back in January (2025). Unlike the 357/44/45 versions, the 454 version does not include the pic rail. The one I received came with a semi-buckhorn rear sight. I was able to confirm with Legacy Sports International customer support that the 454 will not come with the pic rail. The barrel is drilled and tapped for a sight rail. I was able to get a pic rail from Skinner Sights that fits the drilled and tapped holes. Also, the barrel muzzle threding differes from all the other models. The 454 has 5/8 x 24. The quality is ok, but not up the standards of my older Marlin and Browning lever guns. Evan with a muzzle brake installed, the recoil is stiff enough to knock the handrail loose. I have not been able to get 45 Colt to cycle through the action. Edit: As of today, Brownells shows to still have the 454 Casull version in stock. Brownells picture of it is incorrect though (shows a version with a pic rail). |

| I had a rossi in 454. Absolutr garbage, the 92 just cannot handle the pressure genersted by the cartridge. Mine, quite literally, starting coming apart after less than a dozen rounds. The barrel threads peeled back, the foreend cracked and the receiver became wobbly. These were not even hot loads. Rossi replaced it and the second one started doing the same thing so I sold it to a buddy who wanted it. The ones made by Big Horn Armory have a heavily beefed up reciever and barrel threads |

The only work on it has been: Steve's safety delete and replacement follower and some Danish Wood Oil on the furniture. |

Same here, I have put quite a few heavy rounds through a 20" stainless Rossi R92 with no issues. I really want a 16" version, but they are almost unobtainable, even used ones have disappeared, when one pops up on GB it's bid up almost into Big Horn $$ territory. |
