If things get sporty in this next year (Civil unrest etc) I may start carrying my SCAR 17 instead of my AR-15 as a EDC carry in my truck. Currently I use the Haley Strategic micro chest rig with an “H” harness and love it. I have pistol/rifle mags, hanger with IFAK, trauma scissors, multi-tool, knife, and radio. I am looking at the Haley Strategic heavy chest rig. It has two(2) admin type pouches instead of one like the micro chest rig. Anyone else use this rig ? Good points, bad points ? |

I work in a LEO capacity, doing special investigations. I am not in the field per se, just occasionally. I am not a high speed type, I used to be. Now I am more concerned with SHTF and getting home, or if we are attacked by any one of the hundred thousand military aged male got-away's sleepy joe let in. I like the idea of the chest rigs as they seem a little more low profile than a full on plate carrier. And, a plate carrier won't fit in my under rear seat trunk vault, but a chest rig will. To me, the selection of pistol/rifle magazines, knife, comms, utility tool, IFAK w/CAT are no brainers. I keep a Glock backpack in the rig so I can load up water and a couple MRE's if needed, or anything else necessary. I have a small refrigerator at the office with the water and the MRE's. |

Now I don't keep this in my car, I keep a 5.56 setup but I use a Haley Heavy chest rig for my AR10 and use the micro for my 5.56. It works well for me and it lets me carry enough stuff without going crazy. I keep a light and multitool in the pistol pouches (my EDC I already have a spare pistol mag on me). I keep a "rite in the rain" with pens and markers in the small pouch. In the bigger pouch I have a rangefinder (sometimes) but also some dope cards. I have a backpack I keep in my vehicle that has all of the other stuff. Food for thought, why not use a 14.5-16" 5.56mm AR with a 2.5-10x or something similar? It'll be lighter and you can carry more ammo but still have the flexibility to reach out and touch someone if needed (77gr SMK rounds or whatever flavor of precision round you like). You do you, but I like the Haley Heavy for my .308/6.5CM ARs This is a really old pic when I first got it.

I just got the Haley strategic heavy and it is very well made. Holds 4 rifle/2 pistol mags. The pouches are not too big so you don’t overstuff it, but big enough for some tools/med supplies and a pack of gummy bears. I also got their pistol holster pouch that fits in the velcro behind the mags, haven’t tried it yet tho. Still working on setting mine up all the way but seems about the perfect chest rig for a scar for getting home. I also have the blue force gear chest rig which only holds 3 mags, but has molle for attaching more to the sides. Also has an admin pouch behind the mags which I keep a chest seal in. Very thin and lightweight with the BFG rig. Attached File Attached File |

I do have a SCAR 16 and of course the SCAR 17. I like the 17 because of the .308 round and have shot it extensively. Love it. I also have a Tikka T3x TAC A1 in 6.5cm (Counter-Sniper set up) and shoot it out to a mile. Too heavy for a get home type of gun though. My current carry is a 16 inch AR which folds (FoldAR) and sports a Trijicon 16s 1.5 scope. I just wanted to be able to switch up to a .308 if things get way out of hand as the .308 is a pretty hard hitter. |

I’d like to get the haley heavy rig in multicam when its in stock. Been waiting a while. I have two of the micro rigs. I use one during deer season with a gcode holster for the glock 19 in the haley pistol pouch with a extra 10 round scar17 mag next to it. Front pouch holds the flir breach. |

There's a reason .308 is in my serious use lineup as well. |
