| I'll start by saying that I'm aware this is OCD and that in military use it wouldn't and didn't matter. That being said...... My Long Branch #4 .303 is beautiful and shoots like a dream. However the front sight is almost all the way to the left on its post. I would like it to be centered AND maintain the same zero. Is there a proven method to shim or wrap the barrel to "push" the POI in the direction I want? I'm probably going to experiment with it but if anyone has any advice I would like to hear it. Thanks! |

The sight is attached to the barrel, right? You move the barrel, you move the sight the same. I haven’t taken my No4 Mk1* down so I don’t know but after taking a quick look at it, my guess is the sight protecting wings are screwed together. If that’s canted, maybe loosen the screw and twist it. Dunno if it would. If not, my guess is that under that is the actual sight block and that I assume is pinned across the barrel. So you’re not going to easily change that. If that’s what it is, it could probably be removed, the channels in the barrel welded up, cleaned up, sight replaced, redrilled and pinned. I wouldn’t want to. This is all just my guess. Maybe there’s something much simpler. Hopefully someone that’s more familiar with them comes along for you. |

My OCD wants the mechanical zero to be POI, but I don't think Brits took any of that into account. I've noticed it a lot on No 1 MK III that the front sight is way L or R in the front sight base. For them you could always find an old early WW1 rear sight that has windage adjustments on it and center the front. Don't know of any options for the No. 4. If Brian Dick is still active he's a guru on the LE platform. I have had him re-barrel a No 1 for surplus matches. https://bdlltd.com/ |
