And very disappointing. I have no interest in this. A ported SD? Sign me up right now. A nonported SD look a like? Hard pass. Still hopeful for the 33 clones though. |

The nut/sleeve could even be spot-welded onto the barrel (or its check nut spot welded) if there are concerns about liability/injury with people inadvertently opening the ports with no can installed. It just needs to be easily removable. Most people buying an SD will undoubtedly want a genuine SD ported can. If I were going to offer an “SD” with a 3-lug K barrel inside the cage, that’d be my “SD product #2” but I think it’d be a less popular configuration. I absolutely would not offer a full-length barrel with a 3-lug forward of the cage. That’d be silly. |

Changing out the barrel headspacing (bolt Gapping?) and re Drill/pin is not a LOT of work. I would probably accept that at a reasonable cost. |

| Doesn't the SD have a specific trunnion and bolt group aside from the barrel? It quickly goes from "okay, swapping the barrel may not be too bad" to "may as well build it from scratch" with all the parts and work. |

No the trunnion is the same, bolt group aside from the as mentioned locking piece ( Which needs to be swapped for a 115 or 120. ) is the same. Which is pretty simple part swapping and all available from RCM direct. So basically, a no welding required swap. Now swapping the barrel may be a little bit touchy for some but it is an unpin, press out, press in to bolt gap spec then re-drill ream and pin. So a no weld no refinish SD conversion... Maybe. |

So far nobody has expressed interest in buying one as-is after that detail was revealed by Atlantic. Maybe Century will manage to sell these to uninformed buyers, but they lost their opportunity to win over knowledgeable enthusiasts. As I stated above it was possible to configure these to accept both SD and 1/2-28 suppressors, but evidently Century isn’t creative enough to figure that out. Also, most gun owners do not have a press or painting/finishing equipment lying around, and most people here aren’t in a hurry to obtain those to fix something that shouldn’t have left the factory like that. |

Probably a pretty horrible idea to be honest those muzzle threads will be a pain in the ass when they get carboned up. Wonder why Hk never put threads on the muzzle of an SD barrel. Again I would happily accept it as is if the price is right and the shroud is installed properly, the Cocking bearer is correct, Swap the barrel, and cocking piece and you are good to go. Probably $200 in parts to be honest, the Suppressor can be had for $500-600 if you know where to look. if someone only wants to look the part then this is another option. |

The trunnion probably won't have the o-ring cut in the front for the SD suppressor, or could have an HK correct MP5K trunnion. That makes a conversion a little more involved. I'm really not too interested. |

A lot of the mid-size SBR-length barrels don’t really do it for me and I don’t dabble in braces as a bandaid. I’m either going whole-hog on an SBR or I want more ballistic effectiveness. I make an exception for the AK-102/105 but I have a weird affinity for small bore AKs. Even then, I had full size AKs and Krinks before I went down the middle road. I called Century, just now. They also said they are looking into doing a ported barrel configuration, but were light on details. You guys should give them a call and politely let them know what we want. 561-908-7993 or email [email protected] |

I want a factory MP5SD that doesn’t need additional work, otherwise I would just get a SP5 converted with German parts. Thank you for your Inquiry. I have been advised that for the cloners that are looking for the authentic SD with a ported barrel we are partnering with Hitec Arms who will offer a rebarreling conversion service for those who want to utilize a ported barrel and true SD suppressor. Have a great day. |
HTA ain’t cheap. . Their standard SD conversions run $2500-$3000, which does include the suppressor at least. Maybe you’ll save a little bit since it already has the cage but probably not by much.I’ve thought about accumulating the tooling to do my own HK work but it’s so specialized and expensive. I don’t want to go into business and parts kits are pretty much dead in today’s world so it’s not like the $99 AK parts kit days where you could build on the cheap. No, it pretty much closes the AP5-not-SD path for me. I don’t want a K with a cage, I don’t want to pay to have the conversion done, and I’m not paying to buy the tools and build the experience to do it myself. Still an eager buyer for the AP53 though. |

My problem is that this trilug barrel in a SD is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist... and actually creating a problem of its own. The great thing about MP5 pattern guns offered recently is that they are not missing any critical features, like 80's/ban-era import roller locks that didn't have paddle mag releases and correct barrels (length, trilug, threads). The MKE guns, even if not as nicely made, have one feature the actual HKs don't - a front pushpin lower and ability to take trigger housings without clipping/pinning. This AP5SD is taking one step forward and two steps back, considering MKE already makes the correct T94SD. The biggest selling point of the MP5SD isn't its looks, but its functionality. It bleeds supersonic ammo to subsonic and does a good job of signature reduction in the process in a package that is more compact than a MP5 with a full length suppressor. If looks are all that mattered to the customer, Century should have just taken existing AP5s and slapped a MP5SD handguard adapter on them. Instead they're bringing to market a more expensive model that lacks the functionality it was supposed to have. Requiring aftermarket gunsmithing to correct this gun is going to drive away a lot of enthusiasts who were looking forward to what should have been a Century marked T94SD. |

Gospel right here |
| A barrel swap on an MP5 with the SD cage already welded in place is NOT an easy task. The trunnion must be supported during the press, I would not trust the cage welds to withstand pressing force, not by a long shot. You'd need a long tube to go inside the cage and rest against the trunnion, then a barrel ram to press the barrel down and through the tube. Alternatively, one could remove the cage and reweld it or a DT ONE cage in place, which would be in the standard realm of SD conversion work price range. |

Besides the iconic look, this right here. The SPC9 PDW SD does the same thing ala a ported barrel. Being able to just grab any 9mm I want and know its going to be subsonic is a great benefit.

Re the correct ported SD barrel... Personally, I'd rather just use my already existing Gemtech Lunar 9 suppressor on a short 3 lug barrel than having to buy another correct suppressor that uses the ported barrel. It would be nice if the AP5SD came with the correct locking piece (fitted to the gun) for using a suppressor. It also be nice if we could buy MKE #28/80 deg locking pieces. Honestly, already owning a AP5 and AP5-P I don't see myself buying the SD model. ![]() If the lower is actually a pictogram lower (doubtful), I would buy just the lower. It would be neat if @ATLANTIC-FIREARMS could leverage Century Arms to get us some parts. |

It would be neat if @ATLANTIC-FIREARMS could leverage Century Arms to get us some parts. So if money and availability of parts was no object, would you send a HK94 with an original German MP5SD front end/parts kit to get the cage/cocking tube/frame installed by a renowned builder (TSC Machine, RDTS, Murray Urbach, Fleming, S&H, Mike Otte) only to have your builder swap out the ported barrel for a K/trilug barrel in the converted final product? Why would you even buy a MP5SD or any integrally suppressed firearm if you don't want the sound reduction/performance advantages? Form 4's are taking very quickly to clear, some people have even spoke of same day approvals. If you can afford a $1.6-1.8K PCC, a $600 suppressor plus stamp isn't unreasonable, less if you are a wizard with a lathe and make your own F1 can (or convert a faux suppressor). Or you can just shoot it with the faux can on and brace and make it a no-stamp gun. It still puts holes in paper/rings steel and you still get the iconic look of the MP5SD, with the option to put a proper can on it if you change your mind. The gun is also much more desirable/collectible with the correct ported barrel. |

. Their standard SD conversions run $2500-$3000, which does include the suppressor at least. Maybe you’ll save a little bit since it already has the cage but probably not by much.
