Before Canada went all gun control - late 80s I was able to get some Canadian Parts (Walnut Stock Set(new unfinished) and the top cover with stripper clip guide. A Friend of mine had an "FAC" - not sure what it stood for but like a permit that allowed him to buy rifles in Canada even as a US citizen, and he may have brought some rifles back. The border was fairly easy to get across and was common for 18 year olds to drive over in the evening and drink as the drinking age was 18 vs 21 in NY. Some probably sneaked in either in parts or whole Then there are the Century guns that came in as either Police semi-autos or civillianized Sporters that say "made in Canada" but I think are actually Imbel metric receivers with Inch parts. |

No they were not ever released as complete rifles (as in the true Canadian C1 rifles), parts were acquired and sold though. When they switched to the C7 series (AR) they made a concerted effort to destroy all the rifles and parts. The CF are much smaller than the US military and so the control of SA was much more effective. C1 Rifles were always a "Restricted firearm" and a very select few made into civilian hands. (As in IIRC, maybe 10 total in Canada). The chances of one "Walking across the border" is in the order of - 98%. So if you see one now, 99% chance it's some sort of clone. |
