So I just mailed off for my first M1 after talkng/thinking about it since Ive pretty much been a member here. My question is, how/why does it take them almost 3 months to process orders? I got an email saying I've "secured my place inline" but I take it to mean that I'm not actually guaranteed to get what I've ordered. Do they have to actually build the rifles or what? When I see videos and pictures online it looks like they have racks full of guns. |

Pretty much. OP they have crates of rifles that they get from the army. The army gets the returns back from nations we loaned them to. Currently what they have is Philippine returns. They’re rough so they need more work. Lots of rust pitting, bug infested wood that needs replacing etc. So these are often getting a new barrel, a reparked but pitted receiver and reassembled with anything from New old stock parts or refurbished parts. In the old days many rifles needed little work. An inspection and grading, maybe a new spring or replaced busted hand guards. So the current guns need more work and are have more cosmetic issues than before. Gone are the $350 rackers, $400 Field grades and $500 service grades that needed maybe a new spring here and there or with the rack grade, a tighter fitting stock set. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

There’s still nice rifles out there, but they’re also sitting on a gold mine of drill rifles and it makes sense to use them rather than let them waste away in the back of the warehouse. |

Sounds like I should be happy it's taking 3 months and not longer. I'm thinking the only way the newly manufactured receivers sell is if they make them pretty much match rifles for 1900. |

I can see that new receiver rifle thing lasting only as long as they have USGI parts in volume. They sold a shitload of parts in the EStore a few years ago. Some were cheap and some were oddly expensive. Not even talking about branded parts like Winchester or IHC. I bought a couple small items but did not go nuts. Then they sold a bunch of parts to a reseller in trade for something. I forget what and then the parts were mostly gone from the Estore. |

IIRC, the “Expert” M1 uses a USGI receiver (the ones I’ve seen were pitted, so likely they’re bottom-barrel Filipino receivers), which are mated with a new Criterion barrel and a commercial stock - Boyd’s or that other company’s. That said, reviews seem positive, most stating they’re good ‘shooters.’ |

Update: finally got it, little to no pitting, so much so they didn't even bother to repark the reciever. Not anything close to some of what I've seen online. Came with a CMP gas tube and elevation knob, the rest are USGI. I'm going to replace those 2 parts and call it good. |
