I'm up for a CMP 1911. Before I pull the trigger (pun intended) should I get a service grade or field grade? I got one three years ago and it was a service grade but parkerized, I'm not a fan of parkerized pistols. I've seen field grade 1911s that look better than my service grade. |

They will all be varying degrees of parkerized as that was the standard finish for most 1911A1’s from the start - and almost all hav3 been through at least one arsenal refinish since being built. In the earlier rounds there were a few 1911’s ( WWI era) that were blued, but I haven’t seen any more recently. From everything I have seen, pick any grade and you could end up with the same maker slide, or post war contract replacement slides, heavily or lightly rebuilt or refinished. It is really luck of the draw. Honestly from what I have been tracking the grade that I see with the most original parts or limited refinishing is rack grade |

I don't think there is any way to know. Looking at the CMP forum, I have not seen anyone yet contacted from new orders. They are still working the end of the "Round 4" lists, but are almost through them. They have said they ship about 1000 per month and expect to have inventory to last at least through the year (at 2 per person limit). I THINK I'm early in the "new order" pile and hope to hear soon (within the next month maybe). rob |

I think Aug is the window I saw on cmp website. I also mailed a seperate packet for another garand, this time one in .308. Hopefully get that in a month. |

There's a long thread around here somewhere about CMP 1911s. I got 3 from the "open" order system this year (aka Round 5). I ordered 2 Field and 1 Service and got 3 sweet pistols. Service: Colt frame with replacement slide SN: 889292 (1943) Slide: marked 7790314 on the left; MFR 2U894 on the right; M on top Barrel: marked 45 Auto / 7791193 / 85 in the hood area; M on the right of the leg; TZ14 P on the left of the leg; appears new and chrome lined   Field Grade 1: Ithaca frame, Colt Slide SN: 2128850 Frame: ANAD 3 80 (presume Anniston Army Depot March 80 rebuild) Slide: Colt info on left; M on top; Number 808 / 801 under the firing pin plate on the rear Barrel: HS on the right of the leg; parkerized gray finish   Field Grade 2: Remington-Rand slide and frame SN: 2012352 Frame: no extra marking Slide: REMINGTON RAND INC. / SYRACUSE, N.Y.
