Can anyone recommend a reputable gunsmith that can build my kit and flat? I can do many things but make decent welds isn't one of those things. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. |

Any HK builder can do them up I think you might want to take a seat before hearing the labor costs in most cases especially when compared to CETME kit cost, C or L/C I bought one of the 'very good' condition kits from someone a few years ago The kit that came looked like it got stuck in a armory somewhere and never used. The guts barely had any wear. They are a nice rifle honestly. I need to hack the CETME rear sight off and replace for a G3. You could likely buy a decent welder and all the tools needed unless someone here in the US is taking slave labor rates Welding is not that hard

This quest pops up here every couple of years. The only place I've seen advertise Cetme C building services is here: https://fairfaxfirearmsrepair.com/century-arms-guns/ Most HK builders won't touch a Cetme kit for various reasons, the biggest of which is that there are no replacement parts available and the kits arrive in various conditions ranging from new to completely worn out. The easiest way to replace a bad bolt head is buy another kit and hope for the best. A NOS bolt head costs almost as much as a kit when you can find one. Locking pieces are wear items and while most found in the kits are serviceable, many are not. There are no new replacements commercially available. As a builder, why take on the responsibility? |

I sent an email to Fairfax and will see what they say. I've tried my hand at welding, I'm not great at it. I was told of a guy near Bloomington who built them but I guess that was years ago and his business was by word of mouth, he didn't advertise. Anyhow. I might be stuck with a useless parts kit unless I can sort this one out. It's a shame, these kits are everywhere right now and very inexpensive. Indiana needs more gunsmiths lol. Edit: that's a pretty good looking rifle
