Can anyone explain what this means to me? This is on the stock of my M96 Mauser

The 1-2-3 area is bore condition. No stamp means pristine I think. 1 is minor wear/corrosion. 2 is worse. 3 is bad or maybe unserviceable. The wide range of numbers indicates a reading of bore diameter. The 0 represents 6.50mm so I think that's good. |

Your disk: The bore (diameter on the top of the lands) at the last inspection was 6.500mm. The bore will get larger with wear over time. If a disk has multiple stamps, go with the highest number. Bore condition at last inspection was "2", some darkening or surface rust scattered throughout bore on lands & grooves prior to amory cleaning (not perfect mirror). "0" means perfect, "1" is minor darkening or rust observed, "3" is minor pitting but still serviceable. A barrel that inspects as a "4" gets pulled/replaced. When test fired with spitzer bullets your rifle had "0 str" overstrike (shoots to point of aim). A "1" means it hits 10cm high (1str), "2" means 20cm high, etc. The disk was installed so that a shooter could grab a rifle that he had never fired off a rack, take a look at the disk and know the condition of the rifle and how much he needed to adjust his sight picture (6 o'clock hold) to hit a target at 100m. The bore size and condition marks gave him a rough estimation of accuracy potential. "0" and "1" go to the best shooters/sharpshooters, "2" goes to Joe average, "3" goes to sub-par shooters/cannon fodder. |

Thank you all. This is on a Swede that Bubba had already got ahold of. the barrel is cut and the stock is not complete. The bolt is not strait, I'm not sure if it was to start or not. Bubby drilled and tapped the receiver but seems to have done a decent job. It has a scope safety as well. I think this one is a candidate for a bit of fixing up, making a nice sporter with it. |
