My can’t sleep, impulse purchase that I really don’t need for this week is a MAC IX 9mm Pistol. Eventually will be a SBR PCC. I’ve read what little has been discussed on AR15.Com already and the general consensus was not great. Another blowback 9mm in a field of radial and roller delayed supremacy is less than optimal today. I get it, and I’ve got those more than covered. Already own MKE AP5 & AP5P both SBR, a CMMG Dissent 9mm and recently bought a Stribog SP9A3G. I’m not lacking smooth firing minimum recoil options. I also happen to have a PSA 9mm SBR so it’s not like I need another 9mm PCC. Why this one interested me so suddenly that I had to have it? 1. It looks really cool. 2. Takes MP5 magazines that I invested heavily in for my MKE guns so no new magazines to inventory. 3. Very similar controls to the AR15 including using AR15 trigger parts. 4. Pretty simple design, field strips similar to an AR15. 5. All metal construction but still only weighs about 5 lbs. 6. Comes with a tri lug so swapping a suppressor from one of my AP5’s will be easy. 7. It looks really cool. 8. On sale at Atlantic for $650 and they have layaway. Anyone else happen to own one of these care to share your experiences so I know what I’m getting myself into? |

They are a really simple, very reasonably priced gun. I think the only "ding" on them is they are direct blowback. That and the use of magazines that are very expensive compared to other options out there. I had talked to one of the guys at SDS and they said they would love to update/upgrade the design for some sort of locking system, but it would require a total redesign. Strikes me as the right gun but just 2-3 years too late. I think if it had launched a couple of years after the CZ Scorpion EVO it would have sold gangbusters! Sven Manticore Arms |

Sven Manticore Arms I totally agree, in fact timing wise I had a thought when these were being developed everything PCC was blowback except the MP5 unfortunately by the time these hit the market the delayed and radial delayed guns were also hitting store shelves so these lost a lot of relevancy. Really is a shame as these are well designed and build otherwise. Also, for a $600-$700 gun these are a bargain. And for someone not already spoiled with an MP5 experience these are probably a lot of fun to shoot. Also, in this price range Glock mags would have made more sense. Using MP5 mags makes sense if like me someone already has an abundance of them but then why would they go blowback if they already have an MP5. |

A little update on this gun, ordered from Atlantic using their layaway. 70% of my middle of the night impulse purchases have been layaways from Atlantic. Picked it up yesterday. Bought a Strike Industries FSA Single Folding Stabilizer Brace and a Magpul M-Lok hand stop and installed them along with the factory supplied iron sights and flash hider. Just need to dig up a red dot sight out of my box of extra parts to complete this gun. Doubt I’m gonna go the SBR route, probably just keeping it as a pistol with a brace. Here’s a picture as it is now and the cool sticker that came in the box. Attached File Attached File Honestly, I’m thrilled so far with this MAC IX. The fit and finish is incredible, I cannot find a flaw of any kind on this gun. Probably be a few weeks until I can actually shoot it. I realize being a straight blow back gun there will be more recoil compared to most of my other 9mm PCC’s as they are mostly roller delayed or radially delayed or something similar but I’ve shot plenty of blowback 9mm PCC’s and never found them to be uncomfortable to shoot. Also, as a bonus, these come with a threaded barrel (1/2x28) and a tri-lug so swapping a suppressor off one of my MP5 clones to use on this will be easy. |
