Can one common bore alignment rod length be used for multiple guns with different overall lengths with suppressors attached? Or is it best to have multiple alignment rods of multiple lengths? This assumes one common caliber (5.556/.223) Also is a 5.56/.223 alignment rod effective on a setup with a .30cal suppressor? |

You don't necessarily need the gauge rod to go all the way down to the bolt face or something: The barrel itself "funnels" the rod straight, and then you visually inspect what's left sticking out of the can a little bit. Only the last eight or so inches matter, unless you've got some oddball super-long can.  The Strike SISI Sticks set is a little on the short side, but designed to be portable "range set" that can easily fit into a gun case vs. a bench set that's a pain to carry around. I find that I need to gauge cans when I'm swapping things at the firing line where other tools wouldn't be available to me, or it's shaky to hold up an upper and try to eyeball it during a range session. It's nice to have the full set all in one box as well.  |
