We move every few years. Moving a 300 pound safe is relatively easy, even up 3 flight of stairs. The last time used movers so it was really easy lol. The time has come to expand and looking for something about 30" wide weighing about 600 pounds. I think we can still move that ourselves. Min of 12 gauge. I worry about getting anything heavier bc I don't want it falling through the floor into the apartment below. The 2 I keep comparing are the Tracker M22 and Winchester Ranger 26. So the M22 claim is its 11 gauge whereas the Ranger 26 is 12 gauge. The strange to me is the spec weight. The M22 is only 560 whereas the Ranger 26 is basically 600 pounds. 11 gauge is roughly 11% thicker than 12 gauge so it should weigh close to 11% more. Not exact bc of the other parts factoring into the total weight. I then realize Ranger 26 is 1" deeper. So this plays a part into the total weight difference. Still, I would have thought the thicker gauge safe would weigh more or at least be closer to the same weight. Between these 2, which would you get? Or is there something better with similar specs. |

It's not an option you list, but, might I suggest taking a look at Zanotti Armor take-apart safes. I've had a 6' Z2 for more than a decade now. Been through three moves with it, zero problems. It breaks down into six major pieces (left and right sides, top and bottom, back panel, and door). Each is movable by a single person and, while having a second person helps, one person can break down and assemble it. (I am not sure that's true on the largest size, Z3. It doesn't have built in fireproofing, but that's not a big criterion for me. I would buy it again without reservation. |
