Thanks. I ordered one last night from "Basic Precision" for $1325 shipped. Looks like that price will hold until 31 Dec and then spike up a good bit. This will be my first thermal scope. Specs seemed pretty great for the price (384×288 core, 12 um pitch, 2.8x base optical magnification, 50 Hz refresh, 23.3 ounces, integrated picatinny rail mount, takes regular 18350 batteries and not some proprietary battery, ect). There are a few other retailers carrying it now about 25 days into its release, but the others had it listed at the much higher MAP price of $1875. |

I’m not sure - the Hogster ZAP is branded Bering Optics and comes with a fully transferable 4 year warranty (parts and labor). Ships from the US and is warranted in the US. Based solely on the external pics and spec sheets of the Bering Optics Hogster ZAP and the HTI TPM C18-384 35mm, it appears that the chassis is the same and the major electronic/sensor components within are probably the same. I'd imagine that Bering Optics contracted with HTI to produce a production lot of slightly customized (e.g. software changes and perhaps other tweaks/customizations) Bering-branded variant of the C18-384 35mm. The standard HTI-branded version is available for about $911 shipped, so about $400 less. Bering does provide a better and longer warranty and, again, we do not yet know what exactly is different with the Bering Optic spec'd production lot and the differences may be more significant. I seem to recall hearing that Bering Optics does final assembly at their shop and so perhaps they are sourcing chassis / sensors / boards / parts from HTI but doing certain further customizations at their facility. I'd love to see a detailed side-by-side complete with full disassembly comparo but doubt anyone would take the time plus $2k it would take to do it. |
