I have a brand new 1301 tactical. I bought a Primary Arms GLX 1x because I have astigmatism and I like the etched reticle. I bolted it on and it's quite large and too tall by about 1/2" even with the lowest pic mount. So now I'm on the fence getting a scalarworks mount in aim point pattern and trying the GLX again. Or I could use one of my Sig Romeo 5's sitting around. But that mount looses the rear sight. Then there's the GG&G or Aridus Crom mounts that add a ghost ring. However I don't think I need a ghost ring with the prism sight and etched reticle. If I go RMR pattern, then I would want the rear sight back up. I can go RMR and get another Holosun 507 and run that, but then I'm buying another optic too. But it'll be much smaller, lighter, and look better. What size holosun would be best? I have a couple of 507C's that I like, but there's also the larger competition model.... |

I just got back from the 1301's first range day. It ran 100% with everything I threw at it, including cleaning up a baggie of random old shells. I shot everything from 3" Mag, steel, buck, slugs, target, and even some crappy reloads I had sitting around for 20 years that weren't crimped right. I don't know if I even need an optic. The ghost ring and front sight worked just fine from buck shot at 15 yards to slugs at 50. I'm going to try the Improved cylinder choke next time. 00 Buck with the cylinder choke patterned really wide. At 15 yards on a silhouette, all were in the cardboard, but spread from edge to edge including poking holes in my target holder sticks. |

Not not as Quick and Accurate as a good red dot though. |

But this is going to be my home defense shotgun, so the sights might be better for in the house and not worrying about batteries or electronics. Now if I get into a shotgun class or something, I'll throw on a holosun. |

Those usually pattern very well, due to their fancy wad, and the general consensus is they work best with bore or IC, as mod or full constricts the wad and it doesn't do what it's supposed to. |

I think those have the Pic rail. I would pull that and use a low mount dot/plate combo. The rails make everything too high IMO. I have installed several GG&G RMR mounts on my shotguns. Win 1300  Benelli Supernova:  Stoeger with rail=too high IMO:  In reality if your dot dies the window is plenty adequate as an aiming device with the shotgun. Fill target window with target, shot hits target. My supernova is my Heavy Metal gun. At RM3G my battery died between the staging table and the start position. All of the clays and knockdowns fell. My slug zero is high left at distance, I had to guess that hold and had misses with 80 yard slug shots. |

I'm using the Vortex shotgun optic on an A300, but you have no rear sight. On a 1301 I'm using an Aridus CROM with the Rob Haught modified rear sight and put a Holosun 407A3. Either one works fantastic, if you don't mind not having a rear sight the Vortex seems to do very well so far. |
