| Thinking of picking up a GEN2 JRA BM59 and was wondering if I should also get some spare parts just in case. I know they are fairly rare rifles and spare parts will be a premium in the future. |

Definitely mags. I can't disagree with this... spot on. Even the wear items are very similar or the same as the Garand. For ease and quickness of getting a rifle up and going again... springs, firing pin and extractors are what I keep around for mine. The extractor is essentially a Garand/M14 extractor, but has been shaved down a little for clearance on the magazine. If you're really going to be shooting it a lot or it's a select fire rifle, I'd have a spare bolt/barrel kicking around. |

I have a spare op rod. The first or second time I took my JRA BM-59 out the range, the op rod broke. I sent the whole gun back just to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the gas system. They replaced the op rod and sent it back with a note saying only to shoot M80 Nato in the gun, no .308. (as stated on their website) I have since bought a spare op rod and modified a Schuster gas plug to tone down the gas system. (filed the back to shorten the plug to match the Beretta plug length) Schuster is out of business, so I don't have an alternative to offer. The Fulton Armory adjustable gas plug is longer than the standard M1 plug and the Beretta is even shorter than the M1. If you have the grenade launching muzzle device, with the bayonet mount, you will need a Beretta size plug to fit between the lug and gas lock/muzzle device.
