So, I decided I want to get my grandson his 1st BB rifle. I've got permission from his parents. My issues are he is 6 and seems pretty small for his age, I know he'll grow, but I don't really want to buy him something he'll have to wait at least 2-3 years to shoot. I dunno if I'm to picky, or don't know where to look but there don't seem to be a lot of options. Looking at Daisy's site... Daisy Camo Lever Action Kit Traditional - Red Ryder Kit I've not been real into BB guns since I was an early teen, not sure where all to look. Google brought up a lot of stuff, but not really drilling down to smaller shorter rifles. Mostly just different pages with the same thing. Maybe he'll just have to try a Red Ryder and grow into it if he needs too. Hes a country boy, so at his place and ours, there is a ton of land he can shoot on. |

Get him a red rider, got my first one on morning of 5th birthday, my pop taught me to shoot it correctly. Evening that day, I killed my first sparrow. 50+ years later I still have my first red rider, it's wore out, bb's only fly approx 20' out of it, got a good 10 years or so from it, before I bought another, then another & another hahaha. |

But my grandson (God love'em) is kinda a puny lil thing and the Pump that @gtsteve03 recommended looks like it'd be easier for him to cock, is a few inches shorter in OAL and has a full wood stock. With that, I can cut 2-3+ inches off of the back end to shorten it, if need be, then glue back on later if I want/need. Or just save it for his lil 5 week old brother, if it even lasts that long... Red Ryder for sure! And eye protection, those steel BBs bounce back! We used to take my old one on float trips when we were a young couple. We would sit at camp drinking beer and shooting at flies! |
