Recently picked up my DLO/SRT Sterling Mk 5 from tax-stamp jail and before shooting it decided I should clean it properly. I emailed Doug Melton at SRT and he told me how to take it apart, the front cap holds the outer tube in place. It unscrews from the baffle stack, the outer tube is purely decorative (and a way to mount the front sights, the sling attachment and the wooden forend). After removing the front cap and the rear underneath set screw it is supposed to slide off (slip fit). Well, it doesn't. Gun has definitely seen some use, the suppressor has never been cleaned. But I can't get to the muzzle to remove the suppressor until that damn outer tube is removed. I was wondering if Kroil would work on the slip fit (sprayed between the baffle stack and the outer tube). Any ideas? |

Sounds like moderate to severe leading. You may need to take it shooting with your disassembly tools and gloves. Get it hot and then try opening it. Theres some risk to this method, but I’ve done it with some success. |

| If Kroil doesn’t work you could try soaking the front end in Breakthrough suppressor cleaner which is safe for aluminum (not knowing materials of construction). I don’t know if that will attack the finish and that cleaner is relatively expensive but is reuseable even when pretty dirty. |

clean the baffles in a ultra sonic with water and simple green. threads lubed with mobil 1 syntheitc axle grease hi temp red color. threads to clean use a brass and nylon brush and clean them well. non chlorinated brake clean works well on carbon. this is what i do in suppressors. |
