Not currently up to speed but several major mfgs as recently as several years back made specific Garand ammo. Ok , just checked Targetsports and they have specific Garand ammo from Winchester and Privi Partizan. Generally 147-150 gr bullets going 2700fps. Not just bullet weight and speed but with a powder that only creates a certain pressure curve. If you run the wrong stuff you risk bending of the op rod . Over the years I have come across lot of guys who claim they use all sort of regular commercial 30/06 ammo but the garrand specific loads are not all that hard to find so why risk damage? |

AimSurplus recently had 500 rds of PPU for a touch over $1/round. Came in a new .50 cal can. My total price with shipping and taxes was around $590. Couldn't find anyone with a similar price and free shipping.

I have been shooting and reloading for M1 for close to 40 years now. Suitable powder / charge and bullet and rock on. I know no one wealthy enough to shoot a garand regularly with factory ammo Reloading is without question the way to go. My reloads go for less than half the cost per round of factory even surplus |

| The above ^^^ appears to be similar in concept to what Smith Enterprise did with their Socom 16 Gas Plug (Shorter) $50.00 Shorter plug design, has more volume for gas. Also recommended for use with sound suppressors. 17-4 Stainless, double heat-treated – 45 HRC, then M80HT 60 HRC. |

If you are using military cases, drop all charges by 2 grains. If you are looking for accuracy, drop all charges by 1 grain and work up .2 grains at a time. Master Po's Ancient M1 load secret. This is my personal M1 load I use in my CMP M1. It will shoot better than Master Po can. I worked this load up, as you should for your own rifle. Remington .30/06 cases, flash holes deburred and weighed within 1 grain. Federal GM210M Primers (Master Po has heard the horror stories of Federal match primers in the M1/M1A rifles. If you're squeamish or new to reloading, use Winchester Large Rifle) 47.0 grains IMR 4064 Sierra 175 grain MatchKing Overall length 3.340 inches This load, in my M1, duplicates almost perfectly the M72 match load specification with a very low standard deviation. Groups off the bench run 1 - 1.5 inches with the original 1945 barrel on the rifle. Of course, Grasshopper YMMV. |
