| Haven't been reloading too long so just seeing if this is possible with good results. Currently reloading for 7mm-08(BigGame), 270 WSM(H4831sc),and plan to reload for 7mm Rem Mag, 30-06 and possibly 243. Looks like the Alliant RLs might be a good one, specifically RL19 or 17. All these will be for hunting, using bullets like Nosler Partition, Accubonds, Sierra Gamekings, Barnes TTSX, etc. Any experience? Suggestions? Thanks |
| H-1000 would be good for the 270, 7RM and the 30-06(30-06 only with the heaviest bullets, not good for light bullets)..But to slow of powder for the others..I would look for 2 powders, one for the bigger cases and one for the smaller cases...otherwise you are going to be lacking performance on one end or the other, or could easily get into the danger area if you weren't paying close attention...... |

With the 2 powder idea, what would u suggest for the calibers I use? Keep Big Game for the smaller end and H-1000 for the larger?? |

That could work, might need to spend some time on the powder makers reloading cites and see what comes up for best loads for the bullet/cartridge you want to load then figure out which powder works best across all cartridges/bullet combo's..Thats a hard one trying to have one/2 powders that work excellent in several cartridge/bullet combo's..Heck I stock 8 powders just for 300rum..each works best with a certain bullet combo to max performance of that combo...Of course 95% of what I load is 1 combo because thats what I shoot the most....I would do more research if I was you and see what the powder makers show before making a choice, maybe even post what you find here and see the consensus from users..some powders are still a pain to get so that may remove them from your list as well, I assume users will know how easily availa\ble most powders are in different areas... |

If you look at there site, they cover alot of calibers for one powder. |

Thanks The single powder that will load all your listed calibers is VARGET. It may not be the optimal powder, but it will get the job done. |

I'd look at H4350, personally. Limited expence, and very little with most of those rounds. But you wa t a slower powder than typical .223 or .308, but can still work in 30'06. The smaller the diameter bullet in relation to case, the slower the powder. So to me Varget sounds a bit on the faster end. This answer is more theory based starting point suggestion, for further research in manuals to confirm, in your end |

I don't use Varget but my nephew and a bunch of others do. It is a great powder but as stated, can do all but may not be the best. You have a big range of cartridges and needs. Even two powders to cover all and do it well will really be hard. I would think three. The two you have and Varget might be good coverage? Depends on what you are pushing bullet wise. I tried to go to one powder and then I found Gordons Reloading Tool. I suggest you do not venture into that rabbit hole... |

# 1 Each of your guns have biggest input into what works. #2 Stay away from Alliant Reloder series powders as they are very hit and miss with respect to availability #3 Do some leg work with looking at the OEM bullet reloading manuals and look for their input with respect to what works best with their bullets #4 Do not stock up on HE SAID SHE SAID. Work up loads for your guns, and you then stock up. |

No doubt Varget is pretty versatile. @BeardownAZ I have loaded everything you list except for the WSM with Varget with good results. For 7-08 I load 44.1 of Varget under a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip for my Rem M7 7mm-08; 32.0 under a 100 Nosler in .243; 49.0 under a 165 Sierra in .30-06 and 53.1 under a 130 Speer in 7 Mag (admittedly a lightweight for that caliber). I use Varget now because IMR-4350 has blown up in price, which really annoys me because that stuff works well too, and in heavier weights for the 7 Mag and the .280 Ackley I have (I'm holding back the remainder of my 4350 just for it). |

Have you used Varget for heavier loads in 7mm? Like 160gr or so?? I like heavier for elk, if I ever get drawn. |

For the bigger magnums like the 270 WSM, and 7 Rem Mag, it will be a bit slower in velocity. For the -06 and 243 it will be great. It is a bit slow in burn rate for 7-08. What would I do? 3 powders. Varget for 7-08. Will overlap into 243 and -06 with great results in some cases. H4350 for 243 and -06. Will overlap into the mags, but wont be perfect. H1000 for the magnums. Will not really have overlap, but is superior for what its use case is. Notice I didnt say Alliant anything? Mostly because I want a reliable source of powder, not a "oops, sorry guys, we are selling everything to everyone else, so screw the reloaders" source of powder. My only other choices would be VV powder at the appropriate burn rate for each cartridge. |
This thread has my attention because I need to really consolidate on powders right now. I like the idea of 3 maybe 4 for rifle and not 8 or 9 like now. I especially load for 7mm Mag, 308, and 30.06, but also 6.5CM, 6 ARC, and 6mm Rem. The 6ARC might be difficult but I also have a 32 Win SPC so Lever revolution does overlap. Maybe I should just consolidate calibers instead. ![]() I totally forgot 22-250 and 223. |

For 7-08 up to 162gr I've used varget and big game. 8208 is my go to for 140 class My go to powders for 204r through 45-70 3031, varget, h100v, cfe223, rl15. I like cfe 223 due to progressive use mostly. (Blc2 and h335 also whatever is available) 3031 basically every LA military cartridge Rl15/cfe223 for 6arc H100v anything h4350 works in but excels at heavy for cal bullets in 308 sized cases and creedmores.( 153.3 in 6.5 I'm messing with now) Varget everything and anything else. |

Varget strong all-around option for.308,.223,.22-250, and lighter-to-midweight.30-06/6mm Rem loads. 2. H4350 excellent overlap for 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Remington,.22-250, and.30-06. 3. CFE 223 useful for.223, 6mm ARC,.308, and.22-250. 4. H1000 primary slow powder for 7mm Remington Magnum; also applicable to selected heavier-bullet loads in 6mm Remington and.30-06. 5. H4831SC additional slow-powder coverage for 7mm Remington Magnum, 6mm Remington,.30-06, and.22-250. |
