As usual, ARF causes money to be spent. A thread in GD (Starling control) got me thinking about the FWB 300s I used to have (and stupidly sold). So I found one. Not sure if I still have .177 pellets at home. Have a Beeman R1 with an SS3 scope (very nice setup, a bit unusual in that it has a factory adjustable stock) in .20 that I got cheap many years ago, so something that hits a bit harder than the target air rifles. Have pellets for that one. Wondering what I should get for the FWB. I vaguely recall from several decades ago (first rifle was a relatively new at the time Beeman R8 in .177) that H&N .177 was the standard for accuracy...but now there's a HUGE number of pellets when I do a search. (Yeah, you're talking paper Beeman catalog order circa mid 1980s:  ) Probably around that time. If it had (if I recall correctly there might have been) Korth revolvers in it?

I use the H&N Heavy Match or the Finale Heavy Match in my 300S, 8.18gr, not sure if they are the best but the accuracy is great. I wanted a 300S forever.....got it about 10 years ago, love it I got my R10 in 20cal with 66R scope(which is on my 300S now) way back in the day, around when that Beeman catalog came out at some point I picked up a used(and tuned) R11(HW98) in .177, I put a Meopta 2-10x42PA scope on it a few years ago, freaking awesome gun Somehow I also gathered a few FWB 124's and the newer FWB Sport, the FWB 124 was the 1st real air rifle I ever shot, my folks neighbor had one, the 124's are probably my favorite air rifles |

If I recall (it's been close to 13 or 15 years ago) the R1 was $300 and the 124 was $175. Was way out of my way (driving for work), so I bought the R1. Thought about it some and after work the next day, I drove back there (8 to 10 miles out of the way), and the 124 was gone. Should have bought it. Thanks for the info on the pellets. I'm eyeing a 'combo' pack of RWS pellets (100 each of different varieties) and may get a tin of RWS R10 match to try. Found an airgun forum and the R10 and Meisterkugln pellets seem well regarded for the 300S. |

all 3 of my 124's needed new piston seals and I put a new mainspring in them at the same time, was pretty easy and cheap, but if buying one I would factor that in. I need a FWB 65..... | For 10 meter (informal matches) I use H&N Match Rifle which is capable of 10 ring accuracy in my FWB 300S. I have shot benchrest with it as well, and the JSB Exact express pellet 7.87 grain, Exact 8.44 grain, and the Exact Heavy 10.34 grain pellets all shoot well. The Heavy pellets are a bit slow for 50 yard shooting and tend to have more wind drift than the 8.44 grain pellets. I have killed starlings with it using all four type of pellets. Out to 35 yards the 300S has enough power for starlings, and English sparrow. I'd be reluctant to try to take anything larger with it though. |

I have an R1 with a scope in .20 for a bit larger stuff (squirrels/rabbits) if I need it. The FWB was for punching holes in paper for now. H&N was the 'standard' when I started shooting airguns many decades ago. I will probably be getting a few to try out. |

Dug through my drawer with air gun stuff. Cleaning rod, oils (spring and piston if I recall correctly), Box of .177 felt cleaning pellets, and Crossman Match .177 pellets (small box/opened), unopened tin of Meisterkugln pellets, box of Beeman .177 pellet sampler (their Kodiak, crow magnum, ram jet, silver arrow, silver sting, and H & N match pellets). Should be able to see what seems to work best for now. Once I've gone through some of those, I may try some of the other ones listed above. Thanks! |

My go to .177 pellet that has proven to be accurate in all of my .177 toys is Vogel USA bulk pellets. I get 1 hole groups @ 10 yards if I do my part. https://vogelusa.com/vogel-practice-bulk-airgun-pellets.html The price has gone up a little since I bought my last 6000, but is still an excellent value. I have no affiliation with them, but happily recommend them to anyone that shoots .177 airguns. |
