So I've got an AWS Operator's Choice plate carrier - it's basically an LBT 6094 copy. And I'm wanting to add a water bladder on the back. I have questions. 1. What is the best way to attach one so that it doesn't flop around / shift around? I don't like how MOLLE only attachments handle stuff like water bladders. I have been just running an assault pack with it with a water bladder in it, plus the option to run a canteen or two on the sides. But I hate running straps on top of other straps and am attempting to streamline my plate carrier setup. I generally won't be using the plate carrier anywhere I really need a serious assault pack - basically relegated to use in vehicles if needed. If I'm going to be needing more sustainment stuff, I'll probably switch up to something like a full on set of belt kit or a heavy chest rig + pack setup. 2. What is a good water bladder pouch to put back there? Something simple and streamlined, integrated to the carrier as best it can be. Mostly need water (I'll still have canteens I can put on there, so I don't even need a huge bladder, just something I can sip from) Maybe a small pocket for some munchies and a rain jacket or something. 3. I highly do not trust water bladders, I've had too many burst from just backpacking. I've been eyeing the Qore hard plastic water bladder thing - what would be the best way to mount one on the plate carrier? Pitch me other ideas. I'm open to them. |

I'm talking more about the pouches you put the bladder in. And specifically the best way to attach them to a plate carrier without having to wear them 'pack style'. IE, is there a better way to integrate the pouch into the specific plate carrier I have, without having to rely solely on MOLLE. |

I'll tell you what I use on my Banshee, with a Source 1 at bag: an E-tool pouch, MOLLE type, ACU, spray painted of course. It's perfect, and can come off easy if I want. No flop or anything, even when IMTing. I would say if you're in and out of vehicles alot, you may not want one on your back at all. I also have a Maxpedition Roly Poly on the side of the cumberbund, like around 8 o'clock, I can put a canteen or water bottle in it if I need the back slick. Though it's usually stowed, I can use it for plenty of other things too, of course. Man I love dump pouches. |

Isn’t the selling point of the Qore water thing is that it slides in the plate pocket so it can act as a “cooling” pad if you freeze it? I’m not sure how well that works, but if nothing else it fits inside the plate pocket so there would be no bounce. That being said, I don’t have one to really give you any real world experience with it. Not sure how you can get around molle mounting. But if it’s just for a water bladder, it’s not something that you would be constantly taking off. Make a pouch that has the mounting side as molle and the facing side elastic. That should help prevent bounce and sloshing of the bladder. |
