I have a transferable Valmet M79 in 7.62x39 When I first bought it it didn’t function check on semi, don’t remember what exactly as it worked fine in live fire. I recently did a basic cleaning on it and noticed again it fails a function check in semi. I took it to the range today to check it in live fire and worked fine in full auto but… In semi it would fire the first round, extract, eject and chamber the next round but would have a dead trigger. What the hell should I be looking at here? |

Check to see if the U.S.-made, cast steel F.A. hammer, disconnector and auto sear from the original conversion are still present. The parts will have a tell-tale, longitudinal casting seam if they are those original conversion parts. If your rifle is still so-equipped, replace them with original, forged and machined parts for a military AK, preferably E. German, Bulgarian, Polish, Hungarian, or Soviet. Original, military F.A. AK parts were not available in the U.S. back in 1986, so guns were converted with substandard, U.S.-made, cast steel hammers, disconnectors and auto sears. Those parts may or may not have been heat-treated. If I were to guess, I would say that the hammer is hanging up on the disconnector when you release the trigger, due to peening and wear of the aforementioned cast hammer and disconnector. If a F.A. AK disconnector lets the hammer slip out of engagement, you won't get hammer follow. The rifle will still fire, since the auto sear is always engaged on an AK. With a slipping disconnector, you will typically see sporadic, short bursts. |

| Was the gun located in Masshole when you bought it? If so they require the guns be full auto only since they outlawed semi auto assault weapons. If that was the case the trigger group could have been modified to be FA only. |

They're stupid up in Mass., but not as stupid as in the so-called "Constitution State". |
